Katie DeVito and her husband Nick are incredible people. They put together
a TOWNHALL MEETING ON UNEMPLOYMENT. Six NJ legislators will be present on
Tuesday, February 15 at 6:00 pm at the Princeton Public Library. If you
care about this subject you may want to listen in and participate. I
certainly will be there. To read the whole article which appeared this week
in US1 - the Princeton local paper, click here http://tinyurl.com/4edd5dq

Dear Friends,

We had a great presenter yesterday at the St Matthias Employment Ministry:
Joe Himelfarb, who helped everyone to reframe their thinking and start
looking at their job search as a sales campaign!

I wrote a blog entry about it at this link (http://bit.ly/hDKuOh) and you
can scroll down to read it below.

I strongly recommend you consider having Joe speak to your groups sometime.

Best wishes,

Terry

*Subject:* [Here We Are. Now What?] You ARE In Sales!

Ever get pumped up by a motivational speaker? That's how I am feeling right
now after hearing (and experiencing) a talk this morning given by master
salesman Joe Himelfarb. He gave a presentation to job seekers and career
changers at the St. Matthias Employment Ministry in Somerset, NJ, on the
secrets of selling yourself in a job search campaign.

Here are a few of the nuggets of wisdom that Joe shared with us:

- It's NOT about You: Successful salespeople know that selling is all about
the customer. What is their business? What are they trying to achieve?
What's getting in their way? So a job search is about the employer, not you.
The question is: How can you help them?

- It's NOT about Getting a Job: Yes, if you are out of work, you need a job.
But don't approach it desperate and groveling, hat in hand. Rather, know
your value! Research your accomplishments and identify your value
proposition. Believe in yourself. Successful salespeople know this: If you
are sold, you can sell. You must be sold on your product, and the product is
You.

- When they say "No," You say Next: Don't collapse when you get turned down.
Salespeople take rejection in stride. Keep on moving. There is a job out
there for you. Don't give up. It will take a lot of No's to get to the Yes you
are after.

Additionally, Joe says:

- Attitude is key: Success in life is a combination of skills and attitude.
The most successful salespeople know that selling is 80% attitude and 20%
skills. Make no mistake: Employers want to hire people who are honest,
positive, energetic, determined and friendly, as well as able to solve
problems.

- Focus your search: Write an ad for the job you would most like to have.
And go for it!

In our four years of serving the unemployed, as well as those dissatisfied
with their jobs, we have had some great guest speakers, including Absolutely
Abby, Donna Coulson, and Kenny Moore. I can now add Joe Himelfarb to that
esteemed list.

Thank you, Joe. Keep on selling!

search, contact <http://facilitationsolutions.com>Terry and invite him to

Everything that I needed to know to be successful in life I learned

Posted by: "Brian Mecca" Brian.Mecca@yahoo.com   bd_mecca

Sun Feb 13, 2011 4:10 pm (PST)

Everything that I needed to know to be successful in life I learned in
Kindergarten.
1. Play well with others – be courteous and considerate of those around you
2. Don't talk when someone else is speaking – give them the respect that they
are due and you would like to have as well
3. Clean up after yourself – follow up when you say that you will and come
through on your commitments.

4. Be nice to your friends & neighbors - these are the people that you live
with and spend a great part of your life with
5. Listen when other's are speaking – you can learn much more by listening than
by talking
6. Most importantly, how to meet new people and make friends -  today we call
this "networking"
 Best regards,

The Likeability Factor: 5 Traits of Likeable People

Posted by: "Brian Mecca" Brian.Mecca@yahoo.com   bd_mecca

Sat Feb 12, 2011 5:58 pm (PST)

http://www.careerhubblog.com/main/2011/02/the-likeability-factor-5-traits-of-likeable-people.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CareerHub+%28Career+Hub%29&utm_content=Yahoo%21+Mail

The Likeability Factor: 5 Traits of Likeable People
Regardless of how talented you are, how smart you are and how committed you are,
if I don't LIKE you, there's a good chance that:
- I won't buy from you
- I won't refer you
- I won't hire you
- I won't promote you
- I won't think twice about making you redundant when we're restructuring
- I won't totally support you as my boss
- I won't be influenced by your ideas or strategies as your customer or internal
stakeholder
Is this fair? – No
Should these decisions be based on factual, objective decisions? - Yes
But are such decisions swayed by the 'likeability factor' anyway? - Yes, all the
time
Smart, talented, hard working people often don't get the breaks, simply because
they haven't got that elusive"likeability factor"
Here are 5 traits of likeable people:
1. They're good listeners: They listen more than they talk
2. They're helpful: they're focused on helping others become more successful,
not just their own success
3. They're humble: whilst confident in themselves, they've bags of humility
4. They're respectful:  They respect people's time and attention, regardless of
the other person's title, status or background
5. They're positive: they're optimists who radiate energy and enthusiasm
Which of these traits do you need to work on right now?
