As part of the Enterprise Research Infrastructure & Services (ERIS) Core
Facility, the Support Analyst provides and coordinates IT support for
research and administrative departments across clients HealthCare and the
Academic Medical Centers (AMC's) of Massachusetts General (MGH), Brigham
and Women's (BWH) and McLean Hospitals. The Support Analyst will be
responsible for a broad range of support for the Core's customers
including: desktop/laptop systems administration and tier 2 and 3 technical
support, general application and desktop OS troubleshooting, mobile
devices, investigator level in-person and phone support, small project
implementation and coordination, technical training/knowledge management,
security administration and possible server support.
The unifying characteristics of the position are outstanding customer
service skills, eagerness to quickly learn new technologies and
applications for supportability by the ERIS core facility, versatility and
breadth in end-user technical skills and the ability to help teams and
projects successfully accomplish their objectives. Candidates are not
expected to be deeply knowledgeable in all areas, but must demonstrate the
ability and desire to learn how to support a large and diverse environment.
Ideal candidates thrive on variety in their daily work, on interaction with
customers who are world-renowned leaders in their scientific field, and on
working with a wide range of technologies.
Responsibilities
Provide Technical Support as an internal consultant to the Core's
customers: Macintosh and Windows technical support to end-users and
research departments. Analyzes and resolves customer and technical problems
involving multiple technologies and platforms including networking,
networked and desktop scientific applications and OS related issues.
Provide break/fix support, setup/installation, escalation, and solutions
depending upon customer needs.
Work directly with Research Labs within the AMC's of clients Healthcare on
coordination of IT projects that require this person to track and manage
their time.
Advise faculty and staff: acts as an internal consultant for the range of
available enterprise IT solutions (e.g. remote access, mobility, Mac/PC,
Computing Services offered through ERIS and clients HealthCare IS).
Create and close work orders for add/moves/changes of customer devices
using established standards
Develop and maintain system documentation as well as training and reference
materials for the project and customer systems using wiki and knowledge
management tools.
Occasionally participate in special projects as a member of ERIS/IS project
teams during large deployments and platform migrations while coordinating
with Core customers. End-Point device encryption and OS migrations are some
examples.
Responsible for the inventory and tracking of computer related equipment.
Perform other duties as required by the situation and circumstances (e.g.
assist with troubleshooting UNIX, help with relocating servers and desktop
workstations, etc)
Potentially manage and maintain Window/Linux servers for Research Labs at
clients Healthcare Occasionally lift and carry supplies and equipment
weighing up to 25 pounds and possible significant fieldwork around the PHS
campus and satellite buildings.
Flexible work hours and off-hours support occasionally required.
Qualifications
BA/BS degree required or equivalent combination of skills/experience
3+ years of technical support experience in a large, networked computing
environment.
2+ years demonstrated project coordination and analysis
IT Experience in an Academic Medical Center and/or University preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Must be capable of contributing to a central team of IT professionals,
exhibiting a high level of initiative, and possessing an eagerness to learn
new technologies.
Demonstrated ability in providing user services to a community with diverse
computing needs.
Candidate must possess advanced knowledge and understanding of Mac OSX and
Client-based PC's in both desktop and laptop configurations (Windows)
Knowledge and understanding of network and graphics software packages
including but not limited to disk encryption software (PGP, SafeBoot,
bitlocker, file vault), MS desktop office suites, scientific applications,
browsers, Outlook, Entourage, and anti-virus.
Experience with Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) or other Unix-derived systems a plus
Understanding of common network protocols like DHCP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP
Experience in a higher education or desk side (in person) support
environment desirable
Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstration of a
professional demeanor

- Experience designing modular automation equipment, metal working & machining.

- Good computer skills, organized and able to communicate effectively with others in a team environment. Experience with Salesforce CRM and JD Edwards ERP systems a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills & proven project management skills. Good, outgoing team player able to function on his/her own.
- Full working knowledge of either AutoCad Inventor or Solidworks required.
- Knowledge of metals and plastics and metal joining applications utilizing mechanical fasteners.
- Travel as required to various customer opportunity sites to scope and gain approval of automation designs.
