Speaker : Jeff Scott - Vice President of Business & Technology
Strategy, Accelare Inc.

Topic : "The Art of Influence: Getting Things Done When You Are Not In Charge"

Date: Thursday, November 8, 2012

Presentation Summary :
The ability to influence others is the key to personal and
professional success. Nowhere is this more important than in IT where
leaders must bring together people with a variety of perspectives,
values, and goals to create a common solution. Too often, IT leaders
rely on positional authority, process, and "being the expert" to drive
support. While we all yearn for more power and control, this isn't how
leaders work. Whether you are an intern, clerk, or CEO, influence is
the key to success. This session will explore the relationships
between power, process, politics, and promotion to provide proven
methods to increase your organizational influence.

Key takeaways:
Why people resist change and what you can do about it
How it increase your personal power
Models for organizational change

I would like to apologize for the negative message I sent out a few
weeks ago. I didn't realize it would go to everybody. I thought it'd
just go to a few of WNO's top people, and they could judge whether to
keep me in the WNO network.

The professional form of my message would have been, "I'm moving to
Columbia County. I won't be able to come to meetings in Westchester
or Danbury. Is it worth my staying in the WNO network?"

If I had known the message was going to everybody, I would've left the
details out.

That said, some members of WNO have given me great advice, both before
and after I blasted that message. It's up to me whether I make use of
that advice to its potential.

Thank-you everybody who's tried to help me. And I hope something
positive will come out of it.
