Scholastic Media is currently seeking a Digital Publishing Technical Lead to leverage your knowledge of interactive media, digital publishing, analytical skills and management capabilities. Core Responsibilities
The principal function of the Digital Publishing Technical Lead is to lead a team that applies knowledge of interactive media development and publishing to build and deliver compelling products for our customers. This includes managing projects and resources that support:
eBook publishing: An overall eBook and Digital Publishing "Guru".
eReading application development and support.
Website development and support
Mobile application development and support
Interactive media design / development
The Digital Publishing Technical Lead is responsible for leading and advising development activities for a specific project or projects. The Digital Publishing Technical Lead works closely with the designers, developers, QA analysts, and others within the organization and with vendors to ensure a specific project or projects are delivered with the highest possible level of quality. In addition, the Digital Publishing Technical Lead is responsible for training, supervising, scheduling, and monitoring the activities of assigned project resources and vendors.
The Digital Publishing Technical Lead will also:
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and/or Architect in decisions related to digital formats.
Provide recommendations to influence the short-term and long-term digital publishing strategy.
Establish standards and guidelines for the development of digital books at Scholastic. Develop white papers as needed.
Remain current with knowledge of digital book formats and evaluate impacts as new formats are established or evolved.
Manage specific development personnel including full time employees and temp or agency employees as well as the use of development vendors as necessary.
Ensure project personnel are prioritizing and tracking tasks and issues appropriately and recommend corrective action where required.
Participate in interactions with a variety of internal and external users to acquire and exchange information on development or Production issues and processes.
Manage relationships with appropriate first party personnel worldwide as required.
Serve as an advisor to cross-function development efforts.
Assess/establish key performance indicators and prioritize issues accordingly.
Lead development of weekly and monthly reports for delivery to management.
Desired Skills & Experience
Bachelors degree in a technical field required.
5+ years experience leading teams and managing people.
5+ years professional experience in interactive media development and digital publishing. Direct experience in electronic publishing a plus.
Proven ability to partner with various groups within an organization such as Trade, Editorial and IT to build consensus, gather and execute requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Extensive experience working with programming languages and programs including HTML5, CSS3, XML, Java, High Volume Streaming Video, Adobe Flash, and Adobe Photoshop.
Expert regarding eBook file standards: PDF, ePUB, ePUB3, XPS, etc.
Requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, self motivation and ability to work under pressure
