Network optimizations increase the availability, scalability and security of distributed applications. Whether you're deploying a home-grown Windows application or a unified communications and collaboration solution with Exchange, SharePoint, and Office Communications Server, F5′s BIG-IP platform makes your network application ready. In this session we'll provide concrete examples of these optimizations across commonly deployed Microsoft applications and technologies, with a specific focus on Exchange Server 2010. Scenarios we'll cover include: high-availability for CAS servers, authentication and authorization of Exchange users, cross-site resilience, disaster recovery, and leveraging the application delivery controller as strategic point of control to enable better visibility and dynamic control over a virtual environment.

Speaker

Brian McHenry is a Field Systems Engineer for F5 Networks supporting commercial accounts in the New Jersey and New York territories. His focus is evangelizing F5′s BIG-IP and ARX product suites to customers and partners in the region. Brian previously spent 13 years as an IT professional supporting and architecting highly available Internet-facing platforms, variously at startups and major financial services firms.

This Month: The Business Case for Business Analysis

  • Define the purpose of business analysis
  • Articulate the benefits
  • Examine the risk of doing and not doing Business Analysis
  • Determine the investment required

Components of a Business Case

Modeling for Business Analysis: Context Modeling, Part 1

The Business Analyst Career Roadmap

In keeping with this year's theme for IIBA, "The Business Case for Business Analysis", we're going to build and share a business case for business analysis, along with a plan to execute by framing the problem: just what is a business case, and what is it for?

This series of articles will address specific questions about analysis modeling that I've received from business analysts. Instead of hand-waving or pontificating about latest trends, I'll try to provide practical approaches to business modeling that I've applied successfully during my two decades of business analysis.

The Certification team has been working on creating an outline for the BA career path. This article outlines the steps required for an individual to advance from being new to the field of business analysis to becoming a BA specialist.

Letter from the President
By Kathleen Barret, IIBA President and CEO

In this month's newsletter, I will help you get started with your business case for business analysis by giving you some key messages to share with your executive or manager.

5 Steps to Becoming a Business Analyst
By Laura Brandenburg, IIBA Career Business Analyst

There is no question I receive more often than "How do I become a business analyst?" It's a challenging question to address, typically because each person's answer is a bit different.

Partnering for Success: An IIBA/PMI Joint Collaboration
By Elizabeth Larson

It seems that as organizations realize the importance of business analysis, they recognize that both the BA and PM roles are critical to project success. The question seems to be, however, how can the two best work together?

The Future of Business in the New Economy
By Julian Sammy, IIBA Head of New Media

This final instalment of The Future of Business in the New Economy explores ways to integrate what we have learned about value into useful business cases and useful business decision-making.

Real words that work
By Patricia Davies, President, Patricia Davies Communication

In every workshop I teach, I know one Business Analyst will ask, "How can I save time when I'm writing?"  I tell them the truth. "Clear and concise writing takes time. Nobody achieves a finished product on the first draft." A little direct perhaps, but realistic.

Chapter Personnel Profiles - Rick Clare
By Rick Clare, IIBA Vice President, Chapters

This month I have prepared the first of a new series of articles.  Over the course of the coming year, a number of these will appear, providing additional information on many of the Chapters volunteers—where they come from, their work background, and how they got involved with IIBA®.

IIBA in CIO Canada Magazine

Read the article "Business analysts: CIO sidekicks or successors?" an interview with Michael Gladstone, IIBA Vice President Certification and CIO. The role of BAs is considered important even if most admit it isn't properly understood. A new certification may develop more of them. How the relationship with senior technology executives is evolving…

Greetings from the St Matthias Employment Ministry!

For several years, Joe Himelfarb has been speaking to networking groups in
Central NJ to assist job seekers and career changers in learning about
selling skills in order to achieve their dreams.

*On Saturday February 12, the St. Matthias Employment Ministry is pleased to
feature Joe for... *
*
*
*"Presenting Your Value" - How to sell yourself effectively in an interview*

Aristotle believed an important skill any person could have was the ability
to influence.

Have you ever had to convince your colleagues, department heads, or company
executives to try a different tactic in acquiring new business? Ever have to
get your friends to agree on which restaurant to eat at or which movie to
see? Ever tried to get your customers to buy your stuff? Ever tried to get
your kids to behave a certain way? *Ever go on a job interview?*

Join us for a thought provoking and highly interactive program that will
demystify your views of selling and help you to better sell yourself on your
interviews.

· Learn how you can apply the theories and techniques of selling as
you search for work (Hint: no rocket science involved, but Rocket Scientists
can surely benefit).
· Hear new ideas about old job search techniques that can help focus
your attention on the job at hand and getting the interview and presenting
your value
· Learn how to put a different spin on the activities you currently
perform so you can distinguish yourself from the other applicants vying for
the position you want.

Make the person interviewing you feel glad they met you.

And make your new employer wonder how they ever got along without you.

*About Our Speaker*: Joe Himelfarb has been selling for over 18 years.
Whether it's multi-million dollar computing systems to companies around the
world, or consumer products in a homeowner's backyard, Joe enjoys helping
his clients get from where they are to where they want to be.

Joe worked at AT&T Submarine Systems where he assisted with the
manufacturing and installation of several trans-oceanic fiber optic
telecommunications projects. He also was a member of the Sales Account Team
at Hewlett Packard that was responsible for supporting AT&T.

Joe has sold, and co-facilitated, sales training seminars for large
companies in the pharmaceutical, hospitality, and publishing industries.

He left corporate America for a few years to help homeowners in the
Tri-State area envision and create vacation retreats in their backyards by
selling swimming pools.

He is currently a Senior Account Executive working for an organization that
sells IT Professional Services and Staffing.

Joe has a BS in Physics from Buffalo State College and a BS in Mechanical
Engineering from the University at Buffalo . He is a trained Integrity
Systems Sales Instructor and has his PMP Certification from George
Washington University.

Joe has been presenting this seminar for many years to several organizations
that serve individuals who are in transition or looking to make a career
change
