financial services firm.
Summary:
Manage a team of SQL Server DBA's responsible for all databases instances in
a broad systems environment. Assume project owner responsibilities and lead
a SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 migration targeted for 2011. Work in close alliance
with the Development, QA, Infrastructure, IT Production and End User support
teams to provide service excellence and database platform insight to enhance
the efficiency, integrity, safety and soundness of our SQL systems. Develop
administrative as well as optimization and monitoring efficiencies for all
SQL platforms.
Reports to the Managing Director of IT
Detailed Responsibilities:
· Continue to hire and manage a growing SQL DBA team
· Ownership of upgrading the existing SQL 2000 platforms
(Production, DEV, QA, UAT, Training) to SQL Server 2008.
· Formulation of monitoring, optimization and capacity planning for
all RPS SQL instances
· Provide guidance on managing database growth, indexing and general
SQL environment health
· Troubleshoot production issues, provide expedited resolution and
24 x 7 support for mission critical systems
· Assist with and develop ETL processes for our data warehouse
development
· Work with key vendors (EMC, Microsoft) to identify problems and
propose solutions
· Lead weekly Core/New technology team "SQL Forum" where common
challenges are discussed
· Assist the Development teams with future VFP to SQL table
migrations
· Develop an audit-proof SQL Security methodology and policy,
following industry and corporate best practices
· Create a library of SQL documentation
· Review and provide recommendations to change control and SQL
source code management practices
· Evaluate new technologies and recommend appropriate solutions to
support company products and services
· Collaborate with users and domain experts. Strive for establishing
a high-level of trust & credibility
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Hands on manager with 3-5 years management experience, will be
responsible for 3-4 direct reports
· 10+ years MS SQL Administration
· Significant expertise with MS SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008
including:
o Demonstrated experience with SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 migrations
o Windows Active Directory and SQL security integration
o SQL query and index performance optimization
o SQL Server Integration Services and DTS
o In depth understanding of SQL Server architecture, tools and
security
o Experience supporting systems that have high transaction rates, and
large volumes of data
· Ability to multi-task and operate under tight deadlines and high
profile situations
· Excellent written and verbal communications
· Will be required to occasionally works evenings, nights and
weekends
· Strong inclination towards knowledge exchange
· Ability to work independently and on a team
· Mastery of Microsoft Office
· Visual FoxPro, .Net and Oracle experience a plus
· Financial Services experience preferred - (Someone out of a large,
complex, 24X7 Mission Critical type environment)
