Hi, Jayne, Joan and Sharon, You will have either received my broadcast email tonight about a new career network serving the long-term unemployed in NJ ... the New Start Career Network (NSCN) ... or you are learning this for the first time. Here is some more info. My broadcast email is at the bottom. (Call me about this on Sunday, Sharon) NSCN offers access to comprehensive support services throughout NJ, including free access to Rutgers University's Career Services website that is quite extensive. And I feel with the number of foundations, corporations, government and nonprofit entities (and SHRM) supporting and collaborating with NSCN, it will get some "clout" to help finally open some doors to in-house training and openings for job seekers which is what a lot of us have needed for a long time. As well as a "kick in the behind" to get our job searches back in gear and energized. NSCN staff is also very open to ideas as well as volunteers as career coaches (even if you do not need a job or a coach), on a virtual basis. Before one becomes a Career Coach, you will have an orientation workshop and meet the principals. There are many faces behind this ambitious effort! There will be future occasions to meet in person. They are using tools that I have not seen before, like Zoom, OptimalResume, CareerShip, etc. We just had a conference call this noon. Zoom is like Skype but better, and it will be free for our use. All the tools will be free for our use, including one-on-one coaching and counseling. There are regular conference calls with the coaches to provide feedback and followups. And they have started a LinkedInGroup for coaches so we can all meet and chat. The ENTIRE focus of NSCN is to help the long-term unemployed find work and getting our lives back in New Jersey. There are 145,000 long-term unemployed in NJ (that is published ... but we know the actual number is higher than this). Do take a look and spread the word. Let me know what you think. In the meantime, best wishes to all for a joyous and safe holiday. May 2016 be a banner year. God bless, Judy Judy Miao

Subj: Happy Holidays. Some Exciting News I want to Share with You.
Dear Friends, Before I begin to share a gem of an opportunity, I want to wish everyone a joyous and safe holiday. May 2016 bring optimism on the job front and be a good year for us all. The purpose of this email is to alert you of a new career network that is just getting off the ground … the New Start Career Network (NSCN). It is being led by Rutgers University's John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development in New Brunswick. Its website is Click here: New Start Career Network | John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development. Please check it out. Become a Member. Get involved. The goal of NSCN is to provide older (age 45+), long-term unemployed New Jersey job seekers with access to personalized career services, including web-based information resources and in-person and virtual career counseling … all at no charge. The New Start Career Network is an initiative that is funded by the Philip and Tammy Murphy Family Foundation, The Fund for New Jersey, New Jersey Resources, numerous other corporations and foundations ... all focused exclusively on assisting the long-term unemployed in New Jersey to get back to work. Some of the NSCN Partners and Collaborators include Rutgers University, IBM, PSEG, UPS, Direct Employers Association, NJ Chamber of Commerce, United Way and more. Others can be found at the website, and more corporate partners and collaborators will be added over time. New Jersey continues to have a much higher unemployment rate than the rest of the country. With limited government support of the long-term unemployed, we have all been left to our own devices. Most networking groups have been structured to train and help each other, amongst ourselves. The corporate contacts to open doors come through personal networking or none at all. Applying for jobs on the Internet continues to fall into the black hole. And career coaching and other training often come at our own expense. Stress is an understatement for us and our families. The New Start Career Network has learned from and feels the many frustrations of the talent pool left unemployed or underemployed in New Jersey. NSCN will offer coordinated efforts dedicated to helping identify new skills needs, provide training and job boards, access to all types of resources (financial, professional, mental health, social and other support services) and, especially, to help open doors to job opportunities. Through foundations, partners and collaborators, NSCN plans to help open doors to corporate, government and nonprofit jobs within New Jersey to the best of their, and our, cooperative efforts. NSCN welcomes all long-term unemployed to join this cooperative initiative, whether you need a coach at present. Ways to join and/or get involved start at the main website: www.newstartcareernetwork.org : · To become a Member Sign up at "Become a Job Seeker Member" · To request a Career Coach Go to "Job Seeker" and Sign up at "Connecting to a Career Coach" · To volunteer as a Career Coach Go to "Volunteers" and Complete the application at the website Visit the NSCN website, you will see the multitude of partners, tools in the toolbox, personal support, coaching and counseling services. ALL at one location. ALL to help us. ALL at no charge. Being a new startup, speed bumps are natural. BUT, there will be feedback loops to maintain continuous communications and process improvement. NSCN has been created just for us. Let's all help make this a success for us. Help each other land in 2016 and into the future. Like our networking groups, this is a life-long commitment. I just volunteered with NSCN as a Career Coach and participated in the Second Coaching Orientation last Saturday. There are now 48 Career Coaches to be matched with NSCN members who signed up for Career Coaches. More coaches will be needed as the membership increases. Please consider to become a Member and volunteer with your talents and experience in the job search process. Feel free to offer my name as the referral. I think you will be amazed with the energy at NSCN and their commitment to us. What a holiday gift from everybody in New Jersey who genuinely cares about us! Let's get re-energized and focused to getting back to work … and getting our lives back! Should you have questions, the main contact person at NSCN is Maria Heidkamp

heidkamp@rutgers.edu Good luck, one and all. Look forward to meeting you at a future NSCN event. If you have questions, shoot me an email or give me a phone call. I will be glad to set up an advisory committee for feedback consisting of a representative from each of the networking groups that decide to participate. Feel free to share NSCN with others you know who can benefit as well. Many thanks in advance. God bless all, and enjoy the holidays, Judy Judy Miao
