Town Human Resources Director Retiring
Greenwich conducting search to replace human resources director.

new
Maureen Kast, who has served as the Town of Greenwich human resources
director, is retiring.
The town has hired the Waters Consulting executive recruiting firm to hire a
replacement, according to First Selectman Peter Tesei. The firm has a long
history with the town, having found successful candidates for the assistant
fire chief, the town adminstrator, benefits manager and the town's
Department of Public Works superintendent, Tesei said.
Kast, who came to Greenwich in 2003 after a career with the New York City
Police Department, is retiring by the end of the year, Tesei said.
"She started two weeks before Jim Lash was elected first selectman" in 2003,
Tesei said. When Kast took over, the town reorganized its human relations
department. Al Cava, who was in charge of the department at the time, became
head of a newly-formed labor relations division of the department.
Tesei said that the breadth the contract negotiations with the town's labor
unions for both municipal and board of education unions, necessitated the
need for a position dealing with just unions.
The current structure of the department probably will remain although there
has been a proposal to possibly combine both the town's and the Board of
Education's human resources department in an effort to reduce costs.
Tesei said, "I suspect that in this particular market, there will be a lot
of people applying." He added, "Maureen said that she's not leaving the area
so if we need her for assistance, she's available."
The deadline to apply for the position which pays $129,195 to $193,793 is
Nov. 18. And more information is available on the town's website.
