Listed below are Next Week's Upcoming Networking Events. Allmeetings are open to the public, plus you are welcome and strongly encouragedto attend. Try going to at least one or two meetings a week, what you learnthere will definitely help shorten your time in transition. Also, many of thesegroups convene in the evening, so it will not take time away from your dailyjob search activities.

Think of these meetings as opportunities, sort of like going toschool, to learn something that can reduce your time in transition by gainingknowledge in job search and interviewing skills needed to excel and standoutfrom your competition.

In traveling to these events, consider car pooling. Not only willit reduce the cost of driving there, but the friendly conversation will makethe ride seem to go much faster.

If anyone is aware of a meetingthat you would like to share with the group, please let me know and I willgladly include it. Also, if any transition support group would like to receivethis list to share with your members, please let me know and it would be mypleasure to add your group's e-mail address to my distribution list.

Thursday, October2nd from 7:00 - 9:00 pm: The New Canaan Career Transition Support (CaTS) will host Melanie Szlucha, a Recruiter and CareerCoach, who will give a presentationtitled: Interview Like aPresidential Candidate. Politicalraces give everyone an opportunity to judge how much confidence they place in acandidate, and if they think they can do the basics of the job, the samecriteria jobseekers face in an interview. This session includes clips from the2012 Presidential Debates between President Obama and Mitt Romney. We look atthe candidate's effective strategies that earned voter trust, as well as thoseactions that eroded their standing. We will also discuss my TODAY concept toprepare for interviews, similar to how the candidates prepared their soundbites before the debate. Participants see how certain actions color theiropinion of a candidate. This presentation works well for a group of job seekersand non-job seekers by stimulating discussion on the broader concept ofpresentation styles. Meetings are usuallyheld at St. Mark's Episcopal church on the first Thursday of the month and atthe First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan on the third Thursday of the monthexcept as noted. Friday, October 3rd from 9:45 am - 12:00 Noon: The Princeton Public Library and theProfessional Service Group of Mercer County will co-host AmyRaditz, a career coach fromLee Hecht Harrison, who will give apresentation titled: Get Back onTrack, Keep the Momentum Going. Amywill discuss how to create your Project Plan for success, as well as howto stay focused, positive and sustain the ups and downs of the job searchprocess. Saturday, October 4th from 8:30 -11:00 am: Careers inTransition (CIT) meeting. Individuals give a 15 second elevator speech aboutthemselves -- who you are, what you are looking for, target companies (2-3),how the group can help you, and how you can help the group. This is followed bya short period for networking with people you would like to introduce yourselfto and exchange business cards. The group then divides into smaller teams for:1) Resume Assistance, (Please bring 15 copies of your resume if you want itreviewed.) or 2) Support in Overcoming Job Search Obstacles. This includes: A)Small group advice for individuals who have hit the wall and need help toreinvigorate their job search, or B) Large group discussion on various jobsearch related topics. The meeting is in the Winston School Gym at Christ Church,30 East Lane, Short Hills, NJ 07078.
