Supervises: Various General Managers and senior-level Managers
The SVP HR is responsible for setting the strategic direction of and providing executive leadership to the Human Resources function for both Holcim companies in the USA; this includes responsibility for occupational health & safety, along with employee and Labor Relations policies and programs.
Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, skill requirements, travel requirements)
OH&S
* Lead and drive occupational health and safety performance to world class standards while maintaining compliance to applicable regulatory standards
* Demonstrate visible passion for "Zero Harm to People" in the field to all employees.
* Lead the team, including the Director, OH&S, which sets policies, targets and monitors compliance. Build and enhance a safety culture, values, and demonstrate the ability to lead organization to achieve the Zero-Harm objective
* Drive adoption of best practice in OH&S
HR Excellence
* Member of the local Executive Committee (ExCo) that manages the Operating Companies in the USA, aligned with the line functions, regions and Holcim Limited, particularly from the perspective of the impact on people
* Strategic partner to the CEO and local ExCo members including definition and execution of strategic and tactical HR strategies that enable accomplishment of business objectives
* Work with Regional Human Resources to align, design, develop U.S. policy, process, tools and programs and translate the Group initiatives into US practice in compliance with Group standards
* Cascade upwards the U.S. HR challenges and opportunities for region/group-wide understanding and best practice sharing
* Provide direction and vision for the 70 member of the Human Resources (35) and OH&S (35) Departments to best support strategic planning initiatives
* Keep HR focused on the overall business objectives and results - not just functional priorities
* Provide direction and guidance for Employee and Labor Relations to achieve a highly productive engaged workforce; and where labor agreements exist, achieve fair, competitive labor agreements, and constructive employee relationships while maintaining and enhancing company control of the business
* Keep Affirmation Action goals and compliance in line with the Values of the Companies
* Translate the initiative "Holcim Leadership Journey" into local actions including becoming a "Top Company for Leaders"
Organization Effectiveness
* Succession Management, Employee Development and Training, Performance Management - Establish and continuously improve processes and programs to ensure excellent leaders in the pipeline, ensure smooth transitions in leadership and the company is positioned to drive short and long-term business results.

* Compensation and Benefits - Maintain progressive, proactive compensation and benefits programs (along with the GM, North American Compensation Center) to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance. Provide strategy, administration and compliance for company-wide health, welfare and retirements plans; including utilization of employee and company partnership for the short and long-range health and welfare of employees. Maintain Compensation and Benefits programs that are competitive, yet cost effective, and support the ability to attract and retain talent.
* Compensation and Payroll - Maintain accurate, timely, user friendly, cost effective and legally compliant processes, including oversight of the Human Resources components of the Shared Service Centers (including both NABS and NASC) as a co-responsible Business Process Owner.
* International Transfers and International Assignees Management - Provide oversight to professional execution of transfers with correct cost and resources management / segmentation of transfers (tailor-made approach to control costs and expectations).
* Organize consistent and clear internal communications related to Human Resources functions
Educational Criteria
* Undergraduate or graduate degree in a human resources or operations related discipline or combination of a related degree and relevant experience preferred
Position Dimensions (i.e., communication skills, planning, teamwork, technical knowledge, leadership, initiative)
* Proven experience in managing a HR department, energize people
* Understanding of best practice in all areas of HR
* Service oriented, adaptable to very different environments and cultures; including customer focus
* Confident, influential manner and ability to develop strong relationships at all levels in the region, function and wider group; including hourly technicians in the field

* Excellent knowledge of U.S. labor relations, laws, regulatory agencies, compliance and legislation
* Experience in unionized environment
* Knowledge of Compensation and Benefits, specific knowledge with defined contribution and defined benefit plans
* Executive Coaching skills (trusted, able to influence and make the difference)
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; SAP a plus
