With permission from Warner I am posting this article from another group.

All,
Please beware of a VERY ELABORATE job scam I just encountered. I am a savvy
computer user and this one had me fooled for a while.
I responded to a job posting I found on Indeed.com. The job was from a
local company and I looked up their web site. The positing requested I
email my resume to their HR hiring manager. In response they asked I plan
for a Yahoo IM chat as an introductory "job briefing and interview"
Interview by Yahoo IM chat is unusual but not unsurprising these days.
There were some grammatical errors in the emails I received that left me a
little suspicious but not enough to discount things.
The Yahoo IM chat, however, was a different story. The grammatical errors
continued and there were several disconnects between questions I asked and
the responses I got. As I became more suspicious I dug into the company
further while on the chat. On the company web site I found they have an
online application system and do not ask for resumes to be emailed. None of
the jobs the scammer mentioned were listed on the web site. I called the
company and asked about the job. I found it was filled already, so it MAY
have originally been a legitimate opening. Their operator would not put me
through to their HR department so I was unable to verify things further. I
looked up the person on LinkedIn and the grammatical errors sent up a red
flag. At this point I voiced my concerns on the chat and asked for the
person's phone number. In response they disconnected from the chat. I did
not provide any personal information beyond what I already have publically
online and would not have on an a chat.
The cunning and scary part of this scam is that they did a LOT of homework
in preparation for it. They researched the company and were able to convey
accurate information about it. They even researched the HR person on
LinkedIn and were able to provide info about their background! I called the
company back after ending the chat, and they are aware of this scam so
others have been fooled by it.
So it seems the moral of the story is to do a lot of research up front. I
hope this helps others avoid similar scams.
