Enterprise Data Strategist
Position Objective
The Enterprise Data Strategist assists in the development of the enterprise data strategy and is responsible for its execution. Integrates anticipated changes in the business and technology into the enterprise data strategy and works to expand data strategies to fit evolving user needs and new types of data. Creates and maintains the data strategy and roadmap playbook and ensures alignment of the business and IT. Researches and implements innovative approaches for Enterprise Data Management that support business requirements and drive measurable improvements in business performance.
Primary Accountabilities
- Data Strategy and Vision
- Assists in the development of the enterprise data strategy.
- Uses inputs from business leaders and external research to identify business and technology trends that may have impact on the enterprise data strategy.
- Works with business unit leaders and subject matter experts to build a holistic view of the organization's strategy, processes, data, and information technology assets.
- Aligns architecture, process, technology and governance strategies with enterprise information needs.
- Creates and maintains the data strategy and roadmap playbook.
- Analyzes existing data components to assess the organization`s current data readiness.
- Assists other EDM Units in aligning with enterprise data strategy.
- Facilitates the business in the prioritization of analytic processes and develops initial analytic process groups for strategic roadmap planning.
Data Capability Assessment and Recommendations
- Identifies relevant organization, process, and technology best practices relating to data management.
- Identifies key gaps between current state supporting capabilities and relevant best practices.
- Identifies potential technology and capabilities maturity improvement projects.
- Conducts business stakeholder assessment to understand high-level data needs as well as current analytics, data, and issues.
- Conduct interviews with stakeholders, business leadership, Business Domain Specialists, and the enterprise data architecture group to gather high-level future data and analytic needs.
- Captures and recommends emerging technologies and EDM practices that are trending elsewhere in the insurance industry and top tier companies. Develops supporting capabilities recommendations.
Data Architecture and Data Modeling Alignment
- Uses models and architectural frameworks to identify key relationships and gaps between business objectives, processes, and systems.
- Analyzes data architecture portfolios to assess opportunities for improvement and identify changes needed to meet strategic business needs.
- Assess the fit of data project proposals to ensure that planned and in-flight projects are in compliance with enterprise data standards.
- Oversees definition, design, and implementation of enterprise conceptual and logical data models to meet both near term business objectives and anticipated future needs.
- Ensure data model alignment with vision and roadmap at enterprise and project levels.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience analyzing requirements and how they impact a large scale data environment.
- Demonstrated experience in data architecture design.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing with business clients and driving solution discussions with both IT and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience with large data warehousing solution design.
- Demonstrated experiencing developing architectural models to communicate complex subjects in a clear and informative way to varying audiences.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of data management strategies and roadmaps.
