Hi Peter, My teenage daughters think their clothes are free. Well, they did until Mommy stopped filling every order and gave them a budget to manage their own clothing spend. As informed investors in their wardrobes, my daughters have learned how to reuse last season's sweater and focus their investments on new clothing possibilities. It is not easy to convert business partners into investors knowledgeable about the true costs of technology. But if technology is the business, then the IT budget cannot belong to IT alone. It is time for the business to be accountable for the return on IT investment, as I argue in this week's lead item.
