Job Description:

Position Summary:
Our ideal Senior Software Engineer is a very technical individual who has a
passion for delivering high quality software. As such he/she has a proven track
record of creating high-quality components. Experience developing N-tier
applications is expected. He/she must be highly adept at analyzing software
requirements and be able to assist Lead Engineers to create quality high-level
and detailed-design documentation. The Senior Engineer will be expected to be an
active participant in detailed design discussions. The focus will be on tuning
for performance and scalability as well as designing for extensibility and
maintainability. The highest levels of quality in the design and code will be
expected. The Senior Engineer will need to understand key concepts like
decoupled design and the importance of testable code to work well on the team.
The Senior Engineer will be expected to assist with the build and deployment
process of their application- such as documenting the processes and assisting
when called upon to perform the build and/or deployment.

Principal Responsibilities:
•Develop technical solutions that conform both to customer requirements and
Nelnet software development standards

•Effectively participate in the Rapid Application Development process including
design development and deployment

•Continuously expand industry and technical knowledge through participation in
Nelnet and/or external training programs

•Design Development Unit/Integrated Testing and Creation of installation scripts

•Analysis and translation of business requirements into technical requirements
for development and creation of design documents and technical specifications in
accordance with best practices and standards

•Provide post implementation support including monitoring application
performance and debugging existing code

•Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend implementations
•Ensure that expected application performance levels are achieved
•Work with our CMS across multiple web properties and platforms and analytics
and reporting associated with lead management systems.

Education and Experience Requirements:
•5 + years of Web 2.0 development experience working with the Microsoft
technology stack including extensive experience using C# .Net 2.0 3.5 and 4.0

• 4 + years hands-on database skills working with SQL Server or other relational
databases (e.g. Oracle)

•4 + years designing user interface and information architecture
•3 + years of experience with web services WSDL WCF (both SOAP and REST) XML XSD
AJAX

•Extensive experience designing and/or developing solutions for a Service
Oriented Architecture (SOA)

•Experience with a CMS system like Sitecore a major plus
•Extensive experience with design patterns system architectural concepts and
frameworks

•Appreciation of UX / UI design – you may not be a creative designer but you
know good designs and what it takes to implement

•A demonstrated record of experience with HTML XHTML CSS DOM manipulation
JavaScript AJAX and JSON

•Very knowledgeable in OOA/D and N-tier application best practices
•Experience with Inversion of Control (IoC) Dependency Injection (DI) and Test
Driven Development (TDD)

•Experience leveraging open source development tools (such as NUnit
CruiseControl.Net NCover MSBuild NAnt FxCop) a plus

•Technical expertise in high performance website systems web services in a
.Net/IIS environment and performance tuning/scaling of such systems

•Experience of an enterprise SDLC e.g. Waterfall Iterative Agile UP Scrum
•Experience documenting designs using UML
•Experience using an enterprise class source control system. Experience using
Team Foundation Server highly desirable

•Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
•Loves learning about the latest technology in software development.

Position: Production Manager
Position Scope and Responsibilities:
The Production Manager's primary responsibilities include establishing,
managing, and maintaining the visual identity of products as well as effectively
incorporating our customer's identity, as needed and appropriate, into our
product offerings. The Production Manager is an individual with functional
graphic design expertise, UI expertise, along with team management and client
facing skills. This individual will supervise and coordinate the work of graphic
designers and ensure that finished products reflect a unified conceptual
approach, and will work cross-functionally with the entire organization to
ensure consistency across company deliverables. The Production Manager must have
a keen aesthetic sensibility and the ability to visually and verbally
communicate that sensibility to others within the company and to our customers.
This person will be an excellent team leader with client facing skills.

Essential Job Functions:
· Direct the design, concept, and on-time delivery of integrated product
initiatives
· Understands importance of deadlines
· Ability to oversee in-house as well as out-sourced talent
· Experience in preparing documentation for project planning, including:
design requirements gathering, flow charts, wireframes, timelines, and design
mock-ups

· Reviews samples and approves or suggests changes by graphic
designers. Often consults with editors and writers before further action is
taken.
· Works cross-functionally with sales and editorial departments to
decide on new product development
· Authorizes production
· Stays informed of best practices in interface design and web
technologies

Technical Skills Required:
Basic competency in graphic design software such as Quark, Photoshop, Flash,
Dreamweaver, Illustrator et al; familiarity with html, development tools,
emerging technologies.

Previous Experience Required:
· Five-seven years related experience of which 2-3 must be in a
leadership role directing/managing multidisciplinary creative team in the
production of print magazines
· Creative thinker who thrives in a fast paced environment
· Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
· Excellent project management and coordination skills.
· Digital experiences in online content development of mobile
applications a plus
· Excellent communication, organizational, writing/editing, technical
and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple roles, multiple projects, and multiple deadlines.
User interface design experience.
· High bandwidth interactive development experience beneficial.
· Past performance as an Art or Design expert and a portfolio of work to
demonstrate such expertise
· Driven by the ability to do innovative, quality work
Education Required (Certifications, Degrees, Majors, etc…)
BA or BFA or higher in a creative discipline
