Position Summary:
This is a database administrator management position that will be
responsible for running projects and support within a group of DBA's in my
client's fast paced Operations and Infrastructure team. This position will
report directly to the Infrastructure manager and will involve direct
responsibility of their database systems. The ideal candidate requires a
high level of analytical and creative skills and an in-depth knowledge of
database structure, configuration, methodology and design. The ability to
design and implement automation and scheduled tasks using a variety of
technologies is critical to this role.
Experience with SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 2012; Windows servers; Powershell;
SQL Server Reporting Services; very large databases; project management
methodologies.
Will manage 4 other DBA's so candidate needs to be hands on.
Responsibilities:
· Plan architecture and infrastructure for a financial database
systems environment with numerous SQL Server databases in versions 2005,
2008 and 2012.
· Design installation scripts and automation; configure and write
supporting documentation for a high-availability SQL Server database
environment in support of financial services applications and products.
· Work closely with business analysts and software developers to
support existing applications and create new products in a fast-paced
dynamic software development environment.
· Design and assist with database backup and recovery and ensure a
business continuity planning solution
· Create documentation and best practices for access and controls,
benchmarking, policy management, backups and recovery, performance,
reliability, usability and support.
· Create SQL and Powershell scripts and stored procedures for
recurring tasks
· Automate the management of database security to ensure the
integrity of all confidential participant, client and employee information.
· Assist and design stress testing of new applications before
deployment to production servers
· Develop automated policies for database code to ensure compliance
with company database standards and Microsoft best practices.
· Provide cross training to other engineers as necessary
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related is a
requirement.
· Requires 7+ years of direct, hands-on experience as a DBA and 3+
years experience as a manager.
· Microsoft certification for SQL Server required.
· Experience with an investment/hedge fund or financial services
company highly desired.
· Must be able to work in a schedule-driven environment. Timing is a
critical function.
· Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills
are essential.
· The ability to work independently and as part of a team will be
critical to this role.
· Must set high standards and integrity while motivating the team to
succeed.
· Flexibility with regards to scheduling, including after hours and
weekends, is required. 24x7 on call support for scheduled days required.
