Responsibilities Description:
The Vice President of Workplace Technology oversees a team responsible for all Desktop Engineering initiatives for NBC Universal's workplace devices, including desktops and laptops (Windows and Macintosh), tablets, smartphones, and peripheral devices such as printers. Specific responsibilities include:
Ensuring that systems and services are fully scoped, planned, project managed, implemented, tested, documented and meets the expectations of the client
Establishing hardware and software standards and configurations in order to optimize desktop computing and mobile environments
Managing desktop software image including the writing, testing, and installing new packages
Deploying applications and patches to all Windows and Mac OS devices and running scripts to keep the configuration of these devices current
Leading the virtual desktop and application computing team (VMWare and Citrix) in both engineering and support
Utilizing data and metrics to identify and implement opportunities for improvement in regard to project management and service delivery
Ensuring proper hand-offs between L1, L2 and L3 support teams and serves as top tier desktop support.
Meeting regularly with key vendors like Dell and Apple to understand and prepare new products (and changes to existing products)
Educating helpdesk and desk side support analysts on new or upgraded technology
Managing internal resources and 3rd party providers to insure services are meeting expectations (improving service & reducing cost)
Mentoring employees' career growth to enable them to gain the experience and training to keep current with technology to meet NBCUniversal's needs and employees' career goals
Updating the corporate desktop images with updates/patches to the operating system and applications
Implementing automation of processes and deployment where possible
Strengthening processes around testing and deployment
Partnering with stakeholders to expand mobility capabilities to meet demands of growing mobile user base
Ensuring that systems are implemented in a way that meet functional requirements as well as comply with all operational and security policies and procedures
Meeting regularly with Client Services and Information Security to understand changing business needs and incorporate those needs in future designs or configurations
Conducting ongoing research to evolve the workplace including mobile, telecommuting, VDI, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
This position requires a B.A./B.S. in computer science, business administration or other relevant field required and 10-15+ years of experience in progressively responsible information technology positions including 5-7 years of direct management experience.
The candidate must have extensive troubleshooting skills and knowledge of industry best practices and trends.
The candidate must have a technical knowledge of the following:
Desktop Operating Systems (Windows XP / 7 / 8, Mac OS X 10.5.x-10.8.x)
Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (e.g. Citrix, VMWare View)
Lifecycle Management Systems (e.g. Symantec Altiris, JAMF Casper Suite)
Enterprise Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware (e.g. Symantec Endpoint Protection)
Programming/Scripting background (e.g. VBScript, Batch, BASH, Wise, Perl)
Application packaging (e.g. Wise Package Studio)
Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP)
Active Directory fundamentals
End-user Hardware from Dell and Apple (Desktops, Laptops, Tablets, Phones)
In addition, the candidate must exhibit:
Excellent Project Management skills
Experience with validating/qualifying system
Excellent customer service skills interfacing with customers and vendors
Excellent Organizational Skills
Ability to manage time and multiple tasks
Ability to drive results in an expedient manner quickly gathering information and consensus along with the ability to make sound decisions
Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, negotiation), including the ability to communicate effectively with people at different job levels within the organization
Sound understanding of technology and its application to achieve business objectives
