COMBINED DINNER MTG – WEDNESDAY, January 23rd, 2013
Abby Kohut
Lessons From Sandy – Taking Your Job Search By Storm
On Wednesday evening, January 23rd, MIS Network Associates (MNA), IT-Networking (IT NET), TENG, Monmouth Networking, The Breakfast Club of New Jersey (TBCNJ), ETP Network, and Careers In Transition (CIT) will host a combined dinner meeting for members, alumni, friends, recruiters, and guests at the Holiday Inn in Totowa NJ.
Our speaker will be Abby Kohut, otherwise known to job seekers as "Absolutely Abby", a leader in corporate recruiting for the past 16 years. She has held positions such as Senior Director of Recruiting & Career Development for Kaplan, Inc., Employment Director at Sabert Corporation, and Manager of Global Recruiting for Alpharma, Inc. She is currently the President of Staffing Symphony, LLC, a staffing consulting company, and over the past 6 years has had clients in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, non-profit, legal, and publishing industries. A leader in her field, and a well-known speaker on campaigning to get connected, Abby can help you find the position you are striving for. She has facilitated employment for attendees at over 200 events like this in the recent past, and has set a goal to help one million job seekers. Abby will present what goes on from the other side of the table in the search for employment candidates – particularly one
recruiter's use of LinkedIn.
The schedule for the dinner meeting on January 23rd will be:
- 6:00 to 7:00 pm – Registration, "speed dating", and cash bar
- 7:00 to 7:15 pm – General introductions
- 7:15 pm -- Dinner
- 8:00 pm – Abby Kohut
Following our usual meeting format, after you have registered and added your resume, etc. to the handout piles, everyone will participate in a series of informal networking groups i.e. "speed dating", before we sit down for dinner and the general introductions. Briefly, the "speed dating" informal groups will consist of 3 to 5 attendees and last a period of about 10 minutes – or 2 minutes per person. At the end of the 10 minutes, the groups will breakup and find new "partners". Suggested dialogues for the groups will be provided at the registration along with a numbered RSVP list – see below.
There will be an opportunity to circulate up to 50 copies of your resume, personal bio, leads, or other appropriate material in a handout for each participant from the dinner.
The cost will be $45 for everyone if forwarded by mail or other to John Sampson by COB Tuesday, January 22nd at 2 Blackfoot Cir, Wayne NJ 07470. Checks should be made out to John Sampson who can be reached by phone at 973-248-3251 or via email at jcsspike@yahoo.
To facilitate the networking on the event on January 23rd, we will create an RSVP list of those planning to attend which will include for those attendees who are working, current work affiliation, email address, three previous companies you've worked for/consulted at, professional job interest or position availability must be included in your RSVP.
For those attendees who are in transition, three target companies and your last permanent or consulting affiliation should be included in your RSVP. An initial list of attendees will be emailed to all the RSVPs, members of MNA, TENG, Monmouth Networking, IT-Net, ETP Network, CIT, and other interested parties on Sunday, January 20th. The RSVP list will facilitate networking at the dinner meeting and can be used to communicate with attendees in advance or after the dinner meeting.
A final numbered RSVP list of attendees and an ID badge will be available at the registration desk on the 23rd. Your number on the final RSVP list should be part of your introduction: "I'm number x on the RSVP list …" All attendees should have their sharp, crisp, short elevator speech at the ready. Too many "ahs, dees and doeses" will be cut off unceremoniously!
We will accept a LIMITED number of walk-ins on the January 23rd. Anyone who attends on the 23rd and whose check has not been received by COB on January 22nd will be charged $60 WITHOUT EXCEPTION. There will be NO refunds and no-shows WILL be billed. Walk-ins will not be on the preliminary RSVP or have a numbered badge.
Again, bring 50 copies of your bio/resume, leads, or materials you wish to be included in the handout the evening of January 23rd.
Directions to the Holiday Inn at One Rt 46 Westbound in Totowa Park can be found at www.holiday-
If you would like to help out at the meeting on the January 23rd, particularly with the "speed dating", volunteer to be a "Meeting Marshall" and call John Sampson at 973-248-3251 for details. We can use your help!!!
Please join us for what always is a well attended evening of lively discussion, great networking opportunities, and a chance to just catch up.
