SENIOR DIRECTOR, TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS
Position Location: Des Moines, Iowa

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, the Senior Director of Technology Operations will provide technical and strategic leadership to the Technology Operations teams. They will be responsible for optimizing service and operations, therefore enabling greater capability and efficiency in the support and delivery of the products and websites of the company's global businesses.
"MUST HAVE" QUALIFICATIONS
a.. 10 years progressive hands on operations experience demonstrating proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies and processes.
b.. 5 years leadership experience in organizing, developing and scaling operations and engineering teams. Preferably with a large-scale multi-website operation - Consumer, B2B, Hosting, Cloud, or SaaS provider.
c.. Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
d.. Managing a 24x7x365 team, requiring on call availability in support of globally distributed businesses and operations.
e.. Experience managing and supporting geographically distributed teams.
f.. Operate with the highest level of professionalism and personal integrity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a.. Responsible for leading our client's core Operations and Engineering teams. These teams and responsibilities comprise data center operations, network operations, database operations, server operations; administration, maintenance and 2nd/3rd level support of applications and websites across multiple platforms; internal, hosted and public/private cloud infrastructure and services; production and pre-production environments; desktop, telecom and communications engineering; facilities technology planning and configuration; operations monitoring, metrics and continuous improvement, and light weight process and service management to mature the organization and delivery capability.
b.. Ensure the enterprise has the capability to support current and new technologies and maintain high levels of network and system performance and reliability.
c.. Build, develop, and manage system and service design and transition functions, including capacity and performance management, configuration management, and provisioning.
d.. Manage engineering projects to completion within schedule, cost and quality requirements.
e.. Establish and ensure effective business continuity (disaster recovery) processes exist as agreed with the business.
Additional Responsibilities:
a.. Work closely with the management team, particularly the Brand Presidents or Managing Directors, Product Development Leaders and CTO.
a.. Manage the infrastructure costs and operational plan across all offerings to ensure our businesses operate profitability and reliably deliver against internal and external customer expectations.
b.. Interface frequently with technical teams, and collaborate with relevant hardware and software teams to leverage latest technologies inside and outside the company.
c.. Develop management systems and performance measurement dashboards to transparently track and report on performance.
d.. Deliver recommendations to drive short, medium and long-term performance and operational improvements.
e.. Drive operational efficiency initiatives that improve profitability and customer satisfaction.
f.. Apply financial rigor and business acumen to all initiatives to help the management team arrive at decisions that maximize business performance.
g.. Provide business rationale and risk assessment for proposed investments in new headcount and/or infrastructure.
h.. Maintain an appropriate balance across short-term and long-term planning and resource investment.
i.. Provide strong leadership, developing and setting individual and departmental performance goals, and act as an agent of change.
EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS
a.. Experienced operational leader with a track record of successfully scaling and running a web business at full operation having taken it through key phases of growth.
b.. Excited and motivated by building efficient, industry leading, scalable and lean operations capabilities.
c.. Technically astute, and up-to-date on all the relevant security, networking, provisioning, and monitoring technologies as they relate to multi-site large-scale web architectures.
d.. Designing and running highly scalable, multi-site and robust high availability, next generation web-scale computing systems.
e.. Bringing up infrastructure from initial concept to full scale operations.
f.. Driving modern provisioning, systems monitoring and alerting infrastructures, capacity planning processes, large-scale data center configuration management tools, and other aspects of maintaining, managing, and growing a multi-tenant data center infrastructure.
g.. First-hand experience dealing with outages, crisis management and developing remediation plans.
h.. Managing large-scale (5) 9's availability of infrastructure and applications for an e-commerce website, internet portal, media site, or equivalent.
i.. Building, scaling, and leading operations and 24x7 infrastructure teams, with significant experience managing the interface across operations and engineering.
j.. Must have a passion, and an eye for automation of repetitive, and error prone processes.

l.. Ability to remain cool under pressure and adept at crisis management who can quickly translate learnings to improve the quality of the systems and operations environment through driving root cause analysis and detailed remediation plans.
