Job Title: Project Manager
Location:NY
Duration:24 Months
Job Details:
Job Overview
The New York City Department of Education (DOE) is seeking a Project Manager who has proven experience leading process design and implementation of enterprise solutions. This individual will assume a strategic leadership role within DOE's Division of Contracts & Purchasing (DCP) with the aim of running multiple on-going projects, particularly the development and deployment of the new search engine for the ShopDOE website. This is a critical position in which the successful candidate must possess several years of project management experience working with large implementation in city, state or other government agencies.
The candidate will work with the existing DIIT team and will focus on leading and coordinating efforts of the internal DCP procurement analysts and the vendor community, as well as coordinating efforts between various divisions of DOE. The candidate will be extremely knowledgeable in project management and will be able to add significant "hands on" technical leadership throughout the deployment.
ShopDOE is the primary site through which schools purchase educational and support materials through the year. There are currently several hundred thousand items on ShopDOE, provided by thousands of vendors. Vendors will be required to upload new descriptions, pictures, and pricing information about their materials into the new system. Coordinating the efforts of so many entities, some with little technical expertise, is a vast undertaking. This is a very high-visibility project that will affect every school and central office within DOE. It has aggressive deadlines and challenging technical requirements. The candidate must be able to come up with innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
The Project manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
• Understanding the existing current structure of the ShopDOE database
• Understanding the business requirements of ShopDOE as they pertain to vendors and internal users,
• Analyzing business users' needs to design testing for the enhanced system
• Documenting the business specifications
• Coordinating changes to the systems as required for either interim migration and/or ongoing integration
• Providing weekly updates to the teams
• Escalating critical technical issues and potential problems as needed
Required Skills
Outstanding verbal and written skills
The ability to write clear, concise directions and instructions for users
Passion for technology and the ability to guide and instruct others
Graduate Degree, preferrably MBA
The ability to work in an unstructured environment with minumal supervision
Required Experience
At least 4 years relevant experience in the project management of medium-scale and enterprise projects
Systems integration experience
Experience writing technical and business documents
Prior experience working on IT deployment projects for the Government
Thank you very much for your time.
