Position Responsibilities Summary
This position reports to the Middleware Support Manager. The candidate will
step into a leadership position on the team and will be required to quickly
come up to speed while driving delivery and stability. The Lead Systems
Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the Middleware platform, working
closely with the Architecture team in rolling out new products and
technologies. The ideal candidate for this position should be able to
perform both basic & advanced administration tasks including
troubleshooting, performance tuning, HA/DR configuration, Middleware Service
management etc.
The ideal candidate will be capable of communicating effectively with
co-workers at both the technical and non-technical levels. The candidate
should also have some experience in capacity planning, performance
measurement. Possessing a level of versatility is a key to the success of
this position.
Required Skills and Competencies:
Technical
· Several years of experience implementing and administering
Middleware Technologies
· Understanding of High Availability, Business Continuity, and
Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Middle Tier applications
· Extensive experience in managing JEE application servers,
Messaging software, ESB/EAI software, Open Source projects
· Good knowledge on Content/Collaboration technologies including
Microsoft SharePoint, Wikis, Documentum, Alfresco etc.,
· Application Virtualization experience with VMware for Linux
environments
· Ability to investigate and identify performance issues, in the
application layer, middle tier or host based software for both Solaris and
Linux
· Ability to identify performance bottlenecks and tune Java in
response
· Demonstrated understanding of Oracle Databases and their
relationship with applications
· Working knowledge of Oracle RAC environments
· Thorough hands-on knowledge of various load-balancer
configurations
· Understanding of Veritas File System and Volume Manager software
as it relates to Middleware deployments
· Clustering & High-availability design and implementation
experience
Leadership
· Manage and develop the skills of a diverse "follow the Sun" team
located in the US and Asia
· Ability to multi-task several mission critical tasks and projects
with little supervision
· Extremely collaborative and a trustee of the Firm's culture, this
person will set the example to be followed by all teams in the division
· Ability to act proactively and continually implement risk
mitigation plans
· The ability to communicate both written and verbal for all
audiences is critical
· Must be able to lead through influence and not by level alone
· Build relationships with critical vendors to ensure efficient
response to requests
· The ability to perform gap analysis on critical areas of the
environment to identify technical gaps and operational deficiencies
· Develop long term hardware life cycle plans to aid in budgeting
and forecasting
Keys to this Position:
1. We are seeking a strong Lead Engineer that has strong exposure to
Middleware technologies. The role is 50% technical leadership and 50% hands
on.
2. Technical Stack: Java, Messaging such as JMS, IBM MQ, Active MQ;
Content and Collaboration tools such as Sharepoint, Documentum, Alfresco.
You do not need deep hands on experience with all of these technologies just
exposure to several of them. You need to know the technology well enough to
lead a team and to direct projects.
3. Leadership skills are required. This individual will manage a team of
up to 15 (onshore/offshore model).
4. Financial services are a big plus, not a requirement, but must have
experience in a shop that is similar in size, scale & scope 24X7 Mission
Critical Data Intensive Hundreds of Applications 1000's of Servers
Windows, Unix, & Linux Numerous Production Databases Oracle SQL Server
Etc. Blend of technologies C#/.Net Java/J2EE.
