Must have experience in data warehousing. Must understand and be able to explain to users and I/T team members:
- The difference between a two layer data warehouse architecture and a three layer data warehouse architecture
- What are the objectives in each layer of a three layer data architecture
- Star schema how data is organized in a star schema and the advantages
- Different types of users, with respect to reporting needs; i.e., the users who simply want reports versus the users who will write complex queries or use sophisticated tools against the data.
- Data Stewardship
Experience with warehousing data and technical architecture e.g., table and column naming and data type standards, extract standards, processing standards, data retention standards.
Experience analysing and profiling data. High level SQL skills, must understand and be able to write CASE statements, nested table expressions, correlated subqueries, CAST expressions, etc..Create functional design documents, which include table designs and detailed mappings. Must have experience with complex data mappings which merge multiple data sources using "fuzzy matching" in some cases.
Experience with online data, e.g., a company's web site, and data around services provided. Experience with concepts of ads/impressions, click rates and resulting application rates.
Understand end user requirements and help the users create Business Requirements documents. Must have experience leading large end user requirement meetings, with multiple types of users, e.g., true business users, data architects and technical resources in the business, addressing complex business requirements. Must have experience in designing end user requirements sessions and other mechanisms for successfully obtaining end user requirement input.
Some experience performing logical data modeling, and experience interpreting, reviewing and contributing to data models.
Experience with using DW reporting tools such as Cognos or Business Objects, and designing the presentation layer in the tool to meet the users needs. Also experience with OLAP/cube reporting tools, such as Cognos Cube Designer.
Experience creating metadata using a prescribed format and style.
