CONTROLLER - THE GENERAL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (GTS) OF THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the Seminary, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Seminary's reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP. A candidate must have significant leadership experience restructuring an accounting operation as the Controller. Preference will be given to experience with CAMS and Accpac systems. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge about the Seminary's mission statement: "To form leaders for the Church in a changing world."
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Records:
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Establish, enforce and document appropriate checks and balances within the business office.
Manage the collecting, recording and processing of all transactions within the functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tuition billing/reimbursement, general ledger and fixed assets.
Manage the entry of accounting information from an outsourced, subsidiary operation.
Manage the preparation of financial statements, including reports to the Board of Trustees, banks, accrediting organizations and grantors.
Manage the business office to produce flawless audits.
Initiate constructive dialogues with the Dean's Office, the Development Office, students and faculty in order to improve the service provided to these departments.
Cash Management:
Create weekly cash flow forecasting and updating process to report on cash flow.
Manage cash flow to fund operating needs.
Investment Committee:
Provide reporting and analysis to the Investment Committee at its direction.
Post accurately and currently the Pooling Schedule to track the endowments.
Budget:
Working with the CFO coordinate the annual budget process including conducting monthly budget reviews by department, preparing rolling 12 month forecasts and analysis.
Counsel and recommend appropriate action when material variances occur
Audit:
Working with the CFO and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees, schedule an annual independent audit.
Manage the process of the audit, prepare supporting schedules, answer questions and provide assistance to the auditing firm.
Under the direction of the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees and the CFO implement the recommendations as suggested in the management letter.
External Reporting:
Prepare and manage the reporting to accrediting organizations, the OMB and the tax reporting and filing requirements for all state and federal agencies.
