**
One's belief system either creates a better future or obstructs any chances
of a better future.

Here's a useful mantra: "My career is determined by what I do; the
marketplace is determined by what everyone else does."

*Don't Believe the Myth: Get Hired Over the Holidays *

"I'm taking the holiday season off from getting a new job because no one
hires between Thanksgiving and New Years," says the majority of job
seekers. ****

*"Don't believe this myth."*****

When you lose this limiting belief and replace and embrace it with a new
belief that there are unlimited opportunities at any given time, especially
during the holiday season, you will have an excellence chance of securing
employment during the holiday season. ****

*8 Reasons Why You Can Land a Job During the Holiday Season:*

******

1) You will stand out and get noticed because your competition has bought
into the myth. ****

2) More managers / decision-makers are in the office and are not travelling
or away from their offices. ****

3) Most hiring managers / decision-makers are in the "holiday spirit' and
will meet and speak with you.****

4) 2012 is near, and many companies are planning their 2012 budgets and
personnel needs.****

5) There are more holiday events and opportunities for networking and new
contact development.****

6) Hiring managers / decision-makers will respect your efforts during the
holidays, and you will make their job easier.****

7) Seasonal work often times leads to full time employment; and there are
many seasonal jobs available.****

8) The economy is definitely improving and employers are hiring and gearing
up to start 2012 with a bang. ****

"There are hundreds of thousands of jobs created during the holiday
season," says National Retail Federation President and CEO Matthew Shay in
a release in October. ****

This is true – and this does NOT include jobs that are not advertised or
those that are not directly or indirectly related to retail. In all
probability, there are millions of jobs created during the holiday season;
especially this holiday season with an improved economy and stock market. **
**

Those who believe in the myth, will be unemployed come January 2012. But
those who work diligently and intelligently to land a job during the
holiday season, will have a good chance of beginning 2012 gainfully
employed! ****

Article: The Top Eight Rules of Networking (FINS.com)

The Top Eight Rules of Networking

By Kelly Eggers

You know the type. The people with obnoxious laughs, pushy pitches, and the
ability to corner you at industry conferences and talk about themselves
continuously for what seems like hours? The ones who clearly mean well, but
their lack of etiquette can make you wish you hadn't even gone?

Here's a friendly suggestion: Don't be that person.

Networking is a critical part of any job hunt, yet it's probably the easiest
thing to get wrong. Using living, breathing connections works better than
blindly sending out resumes over the Internet, but for many, approaching
people they don't know for help finding or getting a job is uncomfortable
and nerve wracking.

Knowing a few etiquette guidelines can help you keep your conduct
aboveboard, and perhaps ease a few fears about putting yourself in front of
the well-connected.

How to Get a Job With No Experience

http://topjobsandcareer.com/wp-content/themes/BusinessTop/images/date.pngNov
ember 13th, 2011

The search for employment without work experience may seem daunting, but
there are many opportunities for people with little work experience or not.
Many companies, like clothing stores and restaurants, hire workers without
work experience and provide training in the workplace. With careful research
and a well written resume, you may soon find their first job.

# 1

Keep an open mind about the job opportunities available to you. You may not
want to work as a waitress or clerk, but these jobs can lead to a managerial
position. Entry-level jobs provide the stones needed to reinforce progress
to senior positions.

How to Statistically Increase Your Chances of Being Memorable

November 16, 2011

I recently conducted a completely unscientific experiment, yet I'm convinced
my findings could be a networking game-changer for millions of Americans.

Here's What I Did.

It all started when I went in to my favorite salad and sub shop (that's a
hoagie or grinder for you folks in other parts of the country), to grab some
takeout for my family. The man behind the counter was wearing a super cool
hat. I don't know why, but I blurted out, "That is an awesome hat, it really
suits you." A big grin crossed his face and a warm thank-you gushed from him
immediately. I paid for my food and was off.

A week later, I was back in for takeout, the same man was there working the
counter. However, this time, when I walked in his face lit up and I got a
warm, "Hello, nice to see you!" We started chatting and I learned he was the
owner. We talked about the business, how long he had been cooking, etc. It
was if we were old friends. This continued each time I went in for food.
Around the sixth week (What can I say? My family loves the food!), my new
friend and I exchanged pleasantries. As he handed me the food, he said, "I
noticed you've never tried our roast beef. It's the best in town. I put one
in there for your family to try." I was stunned, what a kind gesture. And
yes, it was delicious!

As I sat thinking about this pleasant surprised, I realized it all went back
to the day I decided to give an unsolicited compliment to a total stranger.
And, it made me wonder, "Could this success be replicated?"

Well, can it be replicated? Find out here:

Life, Your Success

A lot of jobs that once were, aren't coming back. Ever. To look for what
isn't there is a waste of time and an insult to your dignity.

If you haven't noticed, the world has changed -- radically. The traditional
yellow brick road to success and financial security has imploded. The path
to a high-paying job used to involve getting the highest academic degree
<http://www.vault.com/wps/portal/usa/education> you could obtain, along
with specific technical job skills, to start climbing the ladder. Today,
most of the ladders are decimated. If those jobs still exist, the needed
knowledge and skills of those jobs have changed . . . and change again every
day.

These are the greatest times of opportunity we have seen in human history --
but only if you know how to seize them. To succeed you need to change with
the way the world is working now. If you are unemployed
<http://www.vault.com/wps/portal/usa/blogs/entry-detail/?blog_id=1465&entry_

here are seven strategies to thrive in the new world.

Disappointment: Part of the Job Search Process

Unemployment is an educational experience. I always say it might have been
the best thing to happen to me, and I have discussed my journey from
unemployment to a full-time job
<http://www.vault.com/wps/portal/usa/blogs/entry-detail/?blog_id=1465&entry_
id=13622> throughout this blog. But I don't think I have ever touched on
the level of disappointment I experienced in my job search.

You never think you will remain unemployed for long, but this economy
changed everything. You learn very quickly that disappointment is just a
normal part of the whole job search
<http://www.vault.com/wps/portal/usa/job-search?headerAction=headerSearch>
process.

My first brush with job search disappointment started very early in the
process. I was attempting to transition from a journalism career into
public relations and took on a temporary job with a nonprofit company. My
hope was to turn that temporary job into a full-time position, but the
economy dashed that goal. Luckily, a contact of mine notified me that she
was leaving her PR position with a city agency and urged me to apply. We
always hear about the hidden job market; I had just found it.

Is this disappointing? Find out here:

O, loyal Pink Slipped reader (assuming there is such a thing). We bring you
today some good news, and some bad. The good news: the economic conditions
that served as the founding raison d'etre for this blog increasingly seem to
be waning. Recovery is the order of the day, and we're fast approaching a
point-at least according to the President-where we can expect to see some
250,000 jobs created every month.

The bad news isn't really bad news at all, except for those of you who may
have Pink Slipped bookmarked: in light of the improvement in economic
conditions-and our determination to offer content that's not only fresh but
relevant to the world around us-we have decided to discontinue Pink Slipped.

BlitzEmail&utm_content=513769&utm_campaign=0> create awareness for your
brand) there are many great opportunities to create a good reputation
(positive buzz) for yourself.

And there are an equal number of opportunities to completely screw it up.

To demonstrate, I took this picture at my front door yesterday. I walked
out to drop something in the mail box and these advertisements fell to the
ground into a pile of promotional angst.

And my first reaction was "Really? Thanks (various advertisers) for dumping
your business in my lap." Now I have to bend over, pick it up, grumble and
throw it away. Don't ask me about what I find (apparently) super-glued
below my windshield wipers each weekend.

As I was heading to the trash can, I thought this was probably how HR people
feel when a resume shows up unannounced, unexpected and not tied to any
particular open position. And those of you hitting companies with your
resume more than once, note that I was doubly unhappy with the holiday
lighting folks who hit me twice with their lazy man's service (sorry, I'm a
DIY guy).

So here's my point.

Shouldn't you take more pride in your reputation, your career or business
than to
<http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/513769/12733323/4099244/http://fixbuildand
drive.com?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzEmail&utm_content=513769&
utm_campaign=0> market your services this way? Maybe we need to go back to
the expensive resume paper. If it gets you thinking "more premium" when it
comes to sharing your career history and availability with
<http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/513769/12733323/4099244/http://timsstrateg
y.com/10-ways-to-penetrate-your-target-companies/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_m
edium=FeedBlitzEmail&utm_content=513769&utm_campaign=0> target companies.

It's the same with writing a lousy cover letter. One that's not well
thought out, impersonal or rushed. Stop playing the numbers game and start
being thoughtful. If you are going to write a cover letter,
<http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/513769/12733323/4099244/http://timsstrateg
y.com/introducing-the-trufocus-cover-letter-template/?utm_source=feedblitz&u
tm_medium=FeedBlitzEmail&utm_content=513769&utm_campaign=0> write a good
cover letter.

So here's your challenge with every investment you make. Have a purpose.
Work from a strategy. And use your network to connect with people.

Stop trashing your reputation. And start thinking about how you'd like to
meet someone just like you.

CAREER [and] LIFE

Hey Everyone!

It's November (seriously) and I have some new thoughts to share. OK?

First, let's update you on what's been happening on the blog (and one from
Fix, Build and Drive):

Does Your Career Match Your Personality?

If you subscribe to the blog

that I've been featuring a few guest bloggers. Fun to see what others have
to say and I hope that you appreciate the variety of voices from time to
time. If you'd like to write something for the blog, let me know. You can
review my guest blogger guidelines

topic ideas.

Some personal updates that might be helpful . . .

1. Last month I finished filming a number of career videos for
About.com. You can see them all on my YouTube Channel
<http://e2ma.net/go/7642171926/207381195/227179940/1357933/goto:http:/www.yo
utube.com/user/TimsStrategy> . Or you can see a sample on About.com called
" Tips for Transitioning into a New Job

about.com/careerplanning/Tips-for-Transitioning-Into-a-New-Job.htm> " (in
case that's something you'll be doing soon). Watch the video and see if you
can find my wardrobe malfunction. If you found it, send me an email with
the issue (reply to this note) and I will pick one winner to receive a free
copy of my HeadStrong book

om/1461063965> ! :-)
2. Tim's Strategy is coming (the "something good"). Really. One of
the most common questions I get? "Hey Tim, love the site, but where do I
find the strategy?" Well, the truth is that it is in everything I do and
write. And it is collected in my books and posts. But I never brought it
all together in one place. Until now. I am completing development of the
most significant project to date on Tim's Strategy. And I will soon need
your help to bring it to life. What is it? It is a structured and
strategic online tool that helps you build a personal and powerful
career/job search strategy. It won't be free once launched, but for a
limited group who agree to be serious beta testers, it will be. Send me a
note and I will add you to the private beta list while there is still room.
3. My marketing, branding and social networking coaching business is
starting to slowly grow. I am so thankful to work with a number of
businesses, nonprofits and people all looking to do something great in the
world. Very gratifying! If I can help anyone you know, please tell them
about Fix, Build and Drive
<http://e2ma.net/go/7642171926/207381195/227179943/1357933/goto:http:/fixbui
ldanddrive.com> , will you? :-)

Is your career in slow motion?

Here's something I think about a lot. This idea that if I am highly
conscious of where my career is headed, I can be more purposeful about what
I do to support and build it. What we do "to make money in life" is such a
complex thing, isn't it?

While I often wished I could work with a zen-like singular focus in a job,
the truth is that I now need to really like what I do. The need to be happy
at work
<http://e2ma.net/go/7642171926/207381195/227179944/1357933/goto:http:/timsst
rategy.com/how-to-be-truly-happy-at-work/> has shifted completely from the
"nice to have" to "must have" column.

Is this true for you?

Is it an age thing? I'm 45, but the desire to find fulfilling work has been
core to my career thinking for a long time. I just never took a step toward
something that could help me get there.

A 2007 job search was my big deep breath. It woke me up to a few new ideas
about my career. And I took the time during my transition to figure it out.
And now here I am chasing that dream. If you need help waking up, let me
know!

Thanks for letting me be a part of your career [and] life. And if you know
others who need some new career ideas, please share this newsletter with
your network (see handy sharing buttons at the top!

Happy early Thanksgiving!
