Job Title: IT Internal Control Compliance Auditor
Department: IS
Reports To: VP Software Development
Position Summary:
The IT Internal Controls Compliance Auditor will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness and efficiencies of IT organizational and functional systems as they impact the financial systems in order to assist management in the identification of risks and the design of effective and efficient risk management processes. The position monitors NAIC accounting issues related to the Model Audit Rule (MAR) to ensure the internal control framework meets regulatory requirements. The incument will also make recommendations to improve the adequacy, effectiveness and sustainability the internal control environment and coordinate the remediation of any issues identified. Incumbent will also coordinate the implementation of corrective actions plans and verify their effectiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough analysis of various process/function flows on a planned as well as special request basis, with a focus on IT processes. Evaluates systems' effectiveness by applying knowledge of business systems. Acts as a liaison between audit staff and IT to analyze various process/function flows.
Monitor emerging external regulatory and compliance issues, especially those related to the NAIC MAR, and propose changes to internal controls. Evaluate impact on existing processes. Make recommendations on appropriate actions for implementation of new/revised controls to assure compliance.
Determine the adequacy of key internal controls over significant business risks and elevate real and emerging business control problems.
Facilitate the risk assessment process to ensure that management identifies key business risks and that risks are adequately owned and controlled. Act as a liaison between departments regarding business risk issues.
Prepare work papers and control review documentation. Make recommendations for improvements, write reports, and conduct meetings, as needed. Evaluate the adequacy of corrective actions.
Prepare and maintain internal control documentation and the completion of effectiveness review of all in-scope processes. Review IT policies and procedures for proper/adequate accounting controls and make recommendations for change as necessary.
Coordinate and validate the remediation of identified control issues and actions.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Gain an understanding of corporate systems and work with the IS Operations Support Group to determine where current applications could improve processes or solidify controls. Provide guidance in the documentation of policies and procedures when necessary and assist in the training of corporate personnel with regard to policy or process changes.
Will develop audit programs and testing scenarios. Assist external auditors, as needed.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is required.
