Location: Waltham, MA

Job Description:
Our client is undertaking a short- and medium-term transformation process of both technology and delivery process to address the fact that its product line contains some products that embody decades-old technology and/or architecture, and/or have not to date been fully integrated with one another or with industry standards.

They are seeking candidates who will be comfortable working with both old and new technologies, and also need to be comfortable in an environment undergoing significant and rapid change to modern software product delivery processes. This change process necessarily involves adaptability to blending the following blends: "waterfall" and "agile" delivery methodologies; "onshore" and "offshore" development; "insourced" and "outsourced" development; and a high degree of collaboration.

Only candidates with the energy and attitude to "climb a very tall mountain" should apply.

Java Technical Skills
• Core grammar (if,switch,while,built in types)
• Package concepts / scoping / classloader
• Interface/Abstract class distinction
• Exception handling / Runtime Exceptions / Checked Exception
• NIO – Async Socket/File/Memory Mapped Files
• Generics – (Collection Interface, Sets, Queues, Maps) building Abstract Data Types
• Threading – Old Style vs Concurrent (Atomics,Executors)
• Challenges of Race Conditions in Parallel Programming
• Reflection – Explain how can be used (to demonstrate knowledge)
• Java build/deploy - ANT/Maven
• Java Testing – Mock Objects, JUnit
• Spring IOC Container – What is dependency injection?
• JDBC – Connections,Statement,PreparedStatement - JDBC 4.0 spec
• Spring jdbc
• Spring mvc
• SOA – OSGi,SOAP,Rest – compare contrast SOAP/Rest/OSGi how do they apply to SOA
• Basic HTML, javascript
• XML – XSLT,Parsers SAX vs DOM
• Java Attributes
• Caching Libraries – EHCache,Gemfire,Coherence,JBoss Cache

Database Technical Skills
• Database Vendor-Technology Expertise (with Oracle, SQL Server, and/or DB2)
• DML (Data Manipulation Language) Expertise with respect to core grammar (e.g. select, insert, update, delete, join types, case, inline views, common table expressions, ANSII functions, etc. )
• Query Performance Management and Optimization expertise (i.e. query plans, including factors contributing to cost, distinction between hash and nested loop joins and when they are good or bad, actions to take in response, etc.)
• Extended SQL programming (e.g. PL/SQL, Transact-SQL, or SQL-PL) expertise
• Data Modeling (Logical, ERD and Dimensional) expertise
• Data Modeling (Physical) expertise, including various index types, partitioning, and other DB engine-specifics
• DB Error-Handling expertise
• DDL (creating and modifying data types, tables and fields, constraints, indexes, partitions, objects, synonyms, sequences, compiled views, materialized views, dynamic DDL)
• Creating high-performance batch ETL processes (data extraction, transformation, loading, quality validation, and related error-handling, parallel loading, )
• Experience with real-time ETL processes
• ETL and/or EAI Tool Expertise (using IBM DataStage, Informatica, Ab Initio, Talend, or other industrial-strength ETL tool to implement ETL processes)
• Managing both XML and flat-file feeds to, and extracts from, database
• DBA skills (Installing instances, upgrading instances to higher versions, creating easy-to-use procedures for refreshing non-production instances from production instances, implementing and supervising backup/restore procedures, basic capacity planning)
• Knowledge of relational theory
• Demonstrated comfort and success with helping to institute data stewardship standards
• Experience with building databases for high-performance OLTP applications
• Experience with building databases for high-performance OLAP, decision-support, and or Data Warehousing applications
• Data-modeling expertise, including ER and dimensional modeling and using Database Modeling tools such as Erwin, Sybase PowerDesigner, IBM Data Architect, or Embarcadero ER/Studio.
