Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and self-motivated Oncology Registered Nurse to deliver nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the Oncology unit. As an Oncology Registered Nurse with Bayonne Medical Center , you will collaborate effectively with nursing peers, physicians and other members of the health care team to provide a seamless continuum of care for oncology patients. You will administer or supervise the administration of chemotherapeutic agents in collaboration with physicians, use and maintain venous access devices, coordinate chemotherapy admissions with the admitting office and orient new staff to the unit. You will report to the Oncology Nurse Manager, Clinical Coordinator and/or Charge Nurse and supervise Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Partners and other team members. You will also assist the Clinical Coordinator and Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement indicators to improve
patient outcomes.
 
Tasks of the Oncology Registered Nurse include:
·         Contributing to improving service and productivity within the Medical/Surgical/Oncology unit and taking the initiative to continuously evaluate your work, report problems and participate in solutions
·         Cooperating in achieving departmental and inter-departmental objectives
·         Participating in cross-training to other hospital areas and collaborate with the Education Department regarding the teaching of IV therapy skills and techniques
·         Reviewing and adjusting staffing, including down-staffing with nursing administrative approval
·         Serving as a preceptor for other RN's in the clinical component of chemotherapy administration after successful completion of a didactic and clinical course
·         Maintaining professional competence and seeking independent job-related learning opportunities
Hospital Oncology Registered Nurse/RN
 
Job Responsibilities
As an Oncology Registered Nurse with Bayonne Medical Center , you will assist in hospital programs which address cancer prevention, treatment and warning signs, educate patients and their families on chemotherapy, side effects, treatment plans and symptom management, identify stress in patient, family and staff behavior and help them to implement healthy coping strategies. You will be a patient advocate who promotes patient satisfaction as a top priority and incorporates patient and family education on diagnoses and self-care into every treatment plan. You will legibly document notes, properly document chemotherapeutic agents given on the chemotherapy flow sheet and provide patient reports to other staff that are clear, concise and contain pertinent information. You will also provide specialized assessments and assist other staff members with assessments of patients' diagnoses, initiate an individual treatment plan with each patient that includes
specific outcomes and revise the plan as needed throughout patient treatment.
 
Additional responsibilities of the Oncology Registered Nurse include:
·         Recognizing and interpreting signs and symptoms, particularly those that require physician intervention
·         Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team concerning patient interventions
·         Evaluating patient care and intervening as needed
·         Initiating discharge planning upon admission and coordinating plan with the multidisciplinary team
·         Completing indicators for the patient acuity system
·         Performing all nursing procedures according to Bayonne Medical Center policy and standards

Job Requirements
As an Oncology Registered Nurse with Bayonne Medical Center , you must maintain a patient-oriented focus, demonstrate a spirit of cooperation and respond to patient and family needs promptly and with understanding. Additional requirements for the Oncology Registered Nurse include:
