Reports To: Infrastructure Manager Location: Near Morristown, NJ
Manages: No Salary Grade: Staff - Level 2
FLSA Status: Exempt Nonexempt Percentage of Travel Required:0%
Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:
Deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of server operating systems, related utilities and hardware. Responsible for troubleshooting server problems as reported by users. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services and maintains a secure systems environment. Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated growth, installs new servers and maintains the server infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions:
· Assists in the establishment of policies pertaining to areas of responsibility; establish, maintain, and manage standards and procedures for same
· Develops and maintains security standards relating to infrastructure systems
· Provides monitoring and maintenance to server services and processes.
· Performs physical and logical server provisioning and consolidation.
· Performs server resource management (capacity, utilization, policy, availability and event management).
· Provides Tier 2/3 troubleshooting and support and performs root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement
· Configures and maintains backup systems for servers and perform OS restores
· Designs and installs server infrastructure components.
· Installs, configures and maintains server based applications related to infrastructure
· Reviews and implements hardware and software patches in accordance with company security policies and deployment procedures.
· Researches and implements new server technology. Stays current on emerging technologies and industry changes
· Works with ITS and/or business to identify system requirements
· Documents and tests new installations.
· Manages vendor relations for server infrastructure including related licensing compliance and all maintenance contracts
· Implements and tests disaster recovery plans that are aligned with business requirements and in accordance with Infrastructure DR plans
· Performs compliance tasks and maintains appropriate associated documentation
· Performs change management activities and maintain appropriate associated documentation.
Basic Qualifications:
· Strong configuration management skills
· Strong server and operating system skills
· Strong internetworking (protocol & port level) knowledge
· Detailed knowledge and experience of server technologies such as Terminal Server architecture, Server Virtualization, IBMPowerVM, HMC, NIM, IBMSystem Director & recovery systems
· RAID level skills and SANdisk.
· Knowledge of security standards and technologies
· Familiar with SNMP and IBMproprietary monitoring.
· Knowledge of OS based utilities and tools
· Ability to write automation scripts.
· Ability to lead teams and perform project management
· Knowledge of Active Directory services
· Customer service oriented
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Project management experience
· Willingness to work out of hours to support the system
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge:
· Understanding of Websphere, MQ Series, Websphere Application & Network Deployment Server, Citrix, & VMWare in an Enterpriseenvironment.
· Experience with Exchange would be a plus
Education and/or Experience:
· Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field. Or equivalent work experience
· Specialized courses in programming languages, operations, communications and server operating systems, or equivalent work experience
· Minimum of 2 years server administration experience in a large server/client networked computer environment
· MCSE or IBMcomponent certifications a plus
Physical Demands: Some physical requirement may be necessary, as required to set up servers and other peripherals
