help create a new release of a firm's software services platform.

The platform includes client facing programmatic interfaces, common software infrastructure, and user interface infrastructure, and other components.

Requirements:
- Great problem solving abilities, a commitment to quality, and the drive to ensure goals are met.
- A passion for writing software.
- A strong desire to learn and share new tools and techniques.
- Above average verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining large scale software systems with long lifespans.
- Proficient in either C++ or Core Java. Familiarity with both languages required.
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals.
- Experience in building Internet scale distributed systems or high volume client/server systems required.
- Prior experience in program management or project leadership desirable.
- Able to work on different platforms or environments.
- Candidates who have unique skills such as embedding interpreters or who have created large scale web applications will be preferred.
- 5+ years of professional experience.

Education:
B.S. Computer Science or Computer Engineering at minimum. M.S. or PhD preferred.

Position: Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Employer: Aerospace – Ground Support and Test Equipment

Location: Connecticut

A Connecticut-based aerospace client of mine has an opening for an
Electro-Mechanical Engineer. They are seeking someone who will be part of an
engineering team responsible for the design of electrical and/or mechanical
systems used on custom built test and maintenance equipment for commercial
and military applications.

The person who will be successful in this position will be a self-starter
with demonstrated knowledge of electro-mechanical systems design; serve as a
Project Engineer to coordinate all design and fabrication activities and act
as primary customer contact on specific projects. This position will include
some overnight travel (typically 2-5 days, 10% or less. Overseas travel
possible.).

This position is responsible for:

§ Designing electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.

§ Designing mechanical structures, fixtures and assemblies.

§ Developing aerospace Ground Support Equipment.

§ Creating electrical schematics, P&I diagrams, General Arrangement, detail
and solid model CAD drawings.

§ Selecting control devices and develop a Bill of Materials.

§ Specifying proper fabrication materials and methods, welding requirements
and plumbing sizes and materials.

§ Leading the design, documentation, assembly, integration, test and field
support of industrial control systems and GSE.

§ Ensuring design compliance with standards for world-wide installation.

§ Hands on startup & debug of industrial control & test systems.

§ Creating functional test requirements for equipment checkout.

The right candidate will have:

§ Working knowledge of PC's, Data Acquisition systems & PLCs.

§ 2 years experience in PLC programming.

§ Demonstrated experience with AC & DC motor controls, pumps and industrial
heating and cooling circuits.

§ Ability to design relay ladder logic and process control instrumentation
circuits.

§ Ability to design electro-mechanical systems to control the flow, pressure
and temperature of fuels, oils and gases.

§ Understanding of the operation and application of pressure, temperature
and flow transducers.

§ Understanding of wiring, plumbing, welding, machining and mechanical
assembly standards, requirements and techniques.

§ 10 years experience in industrial control & test systems design.

§ Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

§ Ability to understand & perform Finite Element Analysis using COSMOS.

§ Knowledge of properties and applications for steel, aluminum and other
metals.

§ Knowledge of NEC, NFPA-70 & 79 electrical codes & wiring standards for
industrial equipment.

Preferred qualifications include:

§ C++, LabWindows/CVI or LabView programming experience.

§ MS Project experience.

§ BSEE or BSME.

§ Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.

§ Experience or training in DFM.

§ Familiarity with electrical and mechanical MIL standards.

§ Understanding of requirements for Class I Div. I & II hazardous location
equipment.

§ Experience designing and qualifying equipment to meet CE requirements.

§ Good oral & written communications skills.

§ Development of product Installation, Operation and Maintenance manuals.

§ Proficient in MS Office Apps.

§ Ability to understand customer specifications and component test
requirements.

§ Able to suggest improvements and alternatives to proposed or current
designs.

§ Ability to handle several projects at once.

§ Good organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to keep
projects within budget and on schedule.

Northern Fairfield Professionals (NFP) guest speaker this month, Thursday
Jan 12, is Liz Meyer. Liz will present: "Professional Soul Searching - how
