JOB DESCRIPTION

System Engineer

Brooklyn, New York

My client, a software and services provider for the kosher food
industry, is looking to hire a System Engineer to provide training, support
and documentation for their customers pertaining to the client's proprietary
software.

Responsibilities

The System Engineer will be responsible for:

* Solving customer problems
* Investigating and validating issues
* Providing feedback for feature requests and required improvements to
the software
* Training customers with refresher courses as well as introducing new
features
* Updating and maintaining documentation on the system

Qualifications

To be considered candidates must have:

* A strong aptitude for and ability to teach and train others
* Strong communication abilities, both written and oral
* Good attention to detail
* An ability to understand the breadth and depth of a very large and
complex system
* The ability to retrieve and analyze data, including from an SQL
server, related to user accounts and activities
* The ability to smartly prioritize among competing priorities, and
provide relevant and well analyzed feature request feedback from users of
the system

Additionally, candidates need to have a personal understanding
of, and appreciation for, Jewish dietary laws. Knowledge of Hebrew is
preferred but not required.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000, with an
additional $5,000 contribution toward the employee's health insurance.

Business Description

To provide business customer service through reactive daily Windows systems
support, implementation of new server-based solutions, and various internal
initiatives.

Responsibilities

1. Daily reactive support for Windows servers globally via hotline and
ticketing systems. Perform triage, initial troubleshooting, and escalation
2. Provide 2nd level support to Wintel Server Support managed service
providers, including training
3. Develop and maintain procedures & policies around all aspects of server
support & implementation, including evaluation of existing practices,
documentation, and training
4. Assist vendors with implementation of new servers, including
bank-standard build and QA process
5. A Work with other global Wintel teams to provide follow-the-sun support
and drive global consistency
6. Collaborate across technical teams and business lines
7. Provide 2nd level support across technical teams, business lines and
application teams
8. Responsible for installation, configuration and updates of systems
related software, firmware, operating systems patches and upgrades
9. Provide on-going assistance to other service providers with new
implementations and support issues
10. Provide support for bank initiatives & programs
11. Maintain documentation for project status, provide ongoing reporting
and metrics
12. Assist with consolidation of SharePoint sites and websites, and day to
day management of internal support mechanisms such as mailing lists,
knowledgebase, document management, etc.
13. Assist with publishing of regular reports for global Wintel team; learn
dbRIB reporting interface and become local subject matter expert on it
14. Assist the team's internal Business Continuity Planning, DR and power
related events

Skill Requirements

Essential Skills:
Expert knowledge of Windows 2003 and Windows 2008
Expert knowledge of server concepts & architectures
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with offshore vendors
Builds positive working relationships and works collaboratively with other
team members
Experience in a large corporate environment
Self starter and ability to work independently
Experience with SAN-connected servers (EMC & Hitachi)
Desired Skills: Experience with VMware
Experience with IIS, MDAC and/or .NET
Experience in the financial services industry
Experience Required: Five [5] years experience with networked Windows server
systems
4 year degree or equivalent industry experience
Language: English


Shift: 11am-7pm weekdays for initial training then Thurs thru Mon. Oncall
coverage 3-5 weeks per year, intermittent off-hours work. Specific
arrangements to be worked out with supervisor.
