Been going to the city (a two-hour commute one way) for two weeks now. Been doing a lot of thinking on that commute.

I've always believed that as the economy "normalizes," a free agent mentality will be the key to success--in getting a job, keeping a job and knowing when to move to another job. It's about "taking charge" of your personal clout.

This morning I read an article about the "intrepreneur" (http://www.witi.com/wire/articles/view.php?id=117), which resonates with my thinking.

I like the word "intrepreneur." It is about leveraging your expertise (to make meaningful). Whether you are back-office or client-facing is irrelevant.

A free agent intrepreneur has no use for the highest bidder employer because the free agent intrepreneur isn't a commodity. The free agent intrepreneur promulgates a distinct self-confidence and so is in control of her or his own present.

Whether in-transition or newly employed, tactically money is king. Strategically, intrepreneurship is king.
