Hello Ann,

Let me congratulate you again for finding this wonderful opportunity for
you. You seem very happy about it. On Saturday you were glowing when
sharing with us the great news.

I want to thank you for sending out this note. Especially for the words of
encouragement for many of those who are still on that long path of
searching. It is good for everyone to read that yes, there certainly is a
light at the end of the tunnel for EVERYONE. Even for those who are
searching for the right opportunity for a very, very long time like in your
situation here.

And one more thing,.it is very important to keep networking even when an
individual found a job since regretfully, nowadays every job is just a
temporary situation. Plan for tomorrow!

Alex

Subject: [CNG] Greetings and Good News

Hello Everyone,

I hope this note finds you in good health and keeping cool in this dreadful
heat.

I wanted to share the good news of my landing.

I am once again a remote, full-time employee. The company is Phase Forward,
Inc. ( <http://www.phaseforward.com/> www.phaseforward.com) located in
Waltham, MA and the job requires traveling, both domestically and
internationally. The job description said 25%, but in my research, I knew
it would be more like 30-50% which was fine by me as long as I am not a road
warrior. They are the only software company in the healthcare industry
that has an integrated product for clinical trials and drug safety. My
first key client, located in Cambridge, MA is an oncology research company
who "Aspires to Curing Cancer". So I consider myself successful in having
transitioned as a project manager into the healthcare industry. I started
on June 21 and am really loving it. My colleagues and boss are supportive
and this client is great to work with. I spent my first 3 weeks in Boston
and I am finding it relatively easy to come up to speed which I attribute to
my volunteer mentorship work over the past year.

My journey was a long one...almost 3 years... and the advice I would like to
pass along is to be Positive, Persistent, and Patient. Nothing is
impossible when you are passionate about your beliefs. I am truly grateful
for all the help I received and the friendships I have built. Best wishes
in all the networking we continue to do and the support we provide each
other.

Kind Regards,

Ann Garvey, PMP

CAREER NETWORKING GROUP

Thursday, August 5, 2009

Bernards Township Library
Basking Ridge, NJ

"Today's Job Market - Expectations, Perspectives, and Effectiveness"

Speaker: John Seber

TOPIC

If you respectfully follow the "standard process" in pursuing job opportunities, you may be experiencing inadequate responses. You may not like what you hear, but this presentation attempts to explain why limited results are achieved in responding to job postings. By learning about the realities of job opportunities and candidates, your perspective and expectations of job boards and company career sites will change. You may be more motivated to pursue a Strategic (vs. reactive) approach.

In order to improve your effectiveness, we will discuss:
- Tips on resume preparation and posting
- The personal perspectives of a hiring manager
- Tips on the mindset of corporate HR/campus and staffing recruiters
- Strategic networking techniques
- The Managed Service Provider model, used by corporations to manage consulting vendors
- Other behind the scenes issues of the consulting business
- Some intangible factors for consideration

Most importantly, real-life examples of more effective methods will be provided, to help you apply these theories.

SPEAKER

JOHN SEBER: John Seber began his technical career after completing his BA in Mathematics at Montclair State University and a Certificate in Computer Programming at the Chubb Institute of Computer Technology. He subsequently earned a Masters of Management Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

John joined Velankani Information Systems in 2001, and is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the company's staffing business. Previously he enjoyed a 20+ year career in directing financial systems development and maintenance at AT&T/Lucent Technologies. Prior to this he supported numerous applications at Allied-Signal (Honeywell) and Chubb Insurance.

He has previously provided this presentation to other networking groups, outplacement firms, NJ Unemployment's PSG, and technical schools in order to facilitate the effectiveness of the job search process.
