The economic turmoil has created a dramatic trend. We are reinventing ourselves to become aligned with the paradigm shift that has taken place in American business. The pace of change has accelerated dramatically and career seekers are learning new leadership skills as they follow their dreams into uncharted territory. We will talk about leadership skills that will accelerate your search to find the job you are looking for. You will gain an understanding of your personal leadership style, how to enhance it, and the most important qualities of an effective leader.
Neil Cooper, certified leadership and life coach, will introduce you to a process called "Reinventing Me!" We will identify specific issues from volunteers in the audience and we will talk about what 'Reinventing Me' means in terms of those issues. _11 Things You Can Learn About Target Employers on Facebook_
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ 2011/08/02/ 11-things- you-can-learn- about-target- companies- on-
facebook/)
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ )2011/08/02/ 11-things- you-can-learn- about-target- companies- on-facebook/
Current employees are the _number one source of
hire via referral_
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ )2011/08/01/ the-top-4- ways-to-find- career-referrals /
. Thus, if you're job hunting, or want to work
for a particular company, it's a good idea to know whom you know at your
_target companies_
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ )2011/05/20/ the-number- 1-way-to- pick-target- employers/
.
Just for grins, I decided to go fishing on Facebook, the world's largest
social network, and take y'all along. I entered the name of one of my job
search client's target companies.
Here's what I got back:
1. Links to the Facebook pages of many current company employees.
2. Links to the Facebook pages of many former company employees. The
company has about 900 people on staff. I stopped counting current and
former employees when I hit 100. There were more.
3. Photos of these people which make particular people easier to
recognize and meet at various networking venues.
4. Thousands of friends of the company's current and former employees.
Some of whom are probably my client's friends too.
5. Tons of personal, "find common ground" type of information about
the company's current and former people.
6. A page for two active golf clubs open to company employees and
friends of the company. My client plays golf.
7. A page for an in-house chapter of a professional association. My
client is a regional leader in that association.
8. A company news page replete with updates and names of employees and
customers.
9. A page describing the company's history.
10. A page describing the company's most significant product.
11. Two jobs pages one that has never been posted and one that hasn'
t been posted since 2010. #Fail. The company's recruiting function isn't
social on Facebook.
So, it can't hurt to mosey over to _Facebook_ (http://www.facebook.com/ ) ,
drop your target companies' names in the search box, and see what you find.
You might be surprised!
_The 4 Most Effective Sources of Career Referrals_
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ )2011/08/01/ the-top-4- ways-to-find- career-referrals /
Career Xroads, a staffing strategy firm, conducts an annual _Source of
Hire survey_ (http://www.careerxroads.com/ ) . Whilenews/SourcesOfHi re11.pdf
the numbers vary, all such surveys agree that the best way to find your way
into a company is through networking, i.e., via referral.
So who provides those referrals?
The four most effective sources of referrals according to CareerXroads:
1. Current employees.
2. Company alumni.
3. Vendors.
4. Customers.
Use this information to inform and prioritize your networking efforts. As
you talk with people, show them a list of your _target employers_
(
http://www.avidcareerist.com/ )2010/10/27/ the-top-10- ways-to-pick- target-employers /
.
Ask about people they know who work for those companies, used to work for
those companies, sell goods and services to those companies, and buy goods
and services from those companies. You want to meet those people!
