This person must be able to document and present complex storage architectures and decisions to both technical teams and management. He/she must also be able to represent IT in meetings with senior management of the business to help strategize future data storage needs and designs that enable the business. The Senior Storage Engineer will make recommendations on storage architecture and data life cycle management. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead the development of long-term strategy and roadmaps for storage and data across the organization in conjunction with firm objectives. * Performs complex analysis of data storage requirements and solutions that fit the firm's technology architecture. * Work closely with technology operations, project management, application solutions and practice support teams to create maintainable, consistent, highly available storage architectures that meet business objectives and set relevant service level agreements. * Perform capacity planning analysis. Develop and track associated budgets to meet storage needs. Manage firm wide storage costs and utilization. * Design redundant systems and policies for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets. * Develop procedures for backups and restores as well as monitor the performance of these procedures. * Develop and maintain procedures for storage change management, backup management and process management. * Maintain current knowledge of storage related laws, trends and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices. Develop strategies and policies to ensure best practice based regulatory compliance that reduces the firm's legal exposure. * Justify expenditures on storage solutions through business cases. * Ensure that information storage and retention measures and equipment adhere to all applicable firm policies, laws and regulations. Recommend changes where necessary. * Analyze storage systems performance, collect information and prepare summary reports as needed. EXPERIENCE: The suitable person must demonstrate 8 to 10 years working in technology operations with a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing; building and managing storage architecture include experience with the following: EMC storage product line, including VMAX, Celerra, Recover Point and Cisco MDS switches. He/she must have experience architecting enterprise storage, archival and backup. Expert knowledge of SAN, NAS, RAID, SCSI, Fiber Channel and VTL. Knowledge of applicable data retention practices and laws. A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience is a must. Prior law firm experience would be a plus.
