*There Is Life After This*

There have been several times when I wondered if there was going to be life
after this. Surviving a divorce, a job loss, or the loss of a best friend
has made me question if life would go on. During one of my darkest moments,
I read a quote that helped me get through it, "The funny thing about life is
it does go on." Although there are events that alter life so drastically we
wonder if there is life after this. My experience tells me there is.

Life changes by choice and by what I call forced choice. Choice is something
we decide to do; forced choice is a choice that is forced upon us. Although
any type of change can be challenging (even the changes we choose), forced
choice can be the most challenging. Events such as a company's general
layoff, a life partner walking out or the death of a friend are all forced
choices. The choice comes not in the event itself, but in what you do with
the aftermath. The choice is really how life continues after the drastic
change.

There is life after this, whatever this is. Life continues on even when you
might not think it will. Throughout life you will have life altering events
that change your life drastically and create a new life for you. I often
tell people I have had many lifetimes during this life, and it is true. The
good news is that with each drastic change you have an opportunity to create
your new life to be more in line with who you are at that time. With each
new life, you get the opportunity to align more closely with who you are
becoming.

Life changes constantly, sometimes in small ways and sometimes in drastic
ways. There are times when life changes so much you are not sure if there
will be a life after this. When I left my job in corporate, I remember
thinking, "I wonder if there is life outside of the company." Was I ever
surprised! There was a world outside the company I could never have
imagined. I had been so isolated in my corporate job that I didn't realize
what else was available to me. I discovered that, not only was there life
after corporate, there were many lives to choose from.

*Are you ready for your next life?*

This week, begin contemplating what you want your life to be like after
this. It doesn't mean you have to make any drastic changes, but just
beginning to think about the changes you would like to make can create a
peace of mind in knowing that you have choices and that there is life after
this.

*Quotes*

"Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape."
Anonymous

"You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude
toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather
than allowing it to master you." Brian Tracy

"You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday.
You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity."
Epicurus
