Entry level skills, Mid-career requirements

I'm continually surprised by how many people don't realize that the
"required qualifications" in job ads are like wish lists, not inflexible
lists of requirements. Those qualifications are a composite of someone's
idea of the ideal candidate. Believe me; they will look at people who don't
perfectly match it. So when a job posting requires four years of experience
and you only have two, you're not automatically disqualified. If you think
you could do the job, apply anyway.

That said, if you're a bit under-qualified, you need to work for it more.
Here's how:

All this Technology Is Harming Communication

We know what we want to say, we know what we want it to mean, but we
communicate in a way that means one thing to us but it's heard differently
by the recipient. It all may be perfectly innocent but it can still cause
friction and misunderstandings.

What To Say On LinkedIn When You've Been Laid Off

By Deborah L. Jacobs <http://blogs.forbes.com/deborahljacobs/> , Forbes
Staff

Many people who've been laid off feel like crawling in a hole, rather than
broadcasting their new job status (or more accurately, lack-of job-status)
to the world at large. But if you want to find another position, that's
precisely what you should do, says Sandra A.VanGilder, an executive coach
with her own firm in New York.

In the current economy, with so many talented people being let go, there is
"absolutely no shame whatsoever" in clearly indicating that you are out of
work," she says. "You exude confidence by not being ashamed that you're
between jobs." LinkedIn
<http://finapps.forbes.com/finapps/jsp/finance/compinfo/CIAtAGlance.jsp?tkr=
lnkd&tab=searchtabquotesdark> , which functions as an electronic resume, is
a valuable tool to help you spread the word.
