Application Developer
Reports to the Associate Director of the LCSR Computing Facility. Is responsible for supporting computing systems for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate computing in the Department of Computer Science (DCS). With a combined system administration and software development responsibilities, manages server-based and workstation- Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or related experience, plus a minimum of three years relevant work experience. Requires at least two years experience in project programming and/or system administration. Requires thorough knowledge of the architecture of operating systems and networks, understanding of basic and advanced algorithms and data structures and their performance implications, and knowledge of database systems with the ability to write SQL queries. Requires experience managing large-scale Unix and Windows computing environments, knowledge of common security threats to Unix and Windows systems, and what approaches can be used to defend against them. Also requires ability to apply knowledge to design and configuration of computing systems; design and write programs in a variety of system programming languages including C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, HTML, PHP, Shell, and others; analyze extensive factual material pertaining to data processing equipment; and prepare recommendations for new equipment and changes or revisions to existing installations.
