Senior SAN System Engineer to $130K salary- Bergen County, NJ .Job Definition: - The Senior System engineer will be responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
- This candidate will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SAN technologies, primarily NetApp SANs.
- Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
- Interact with Business Units and vendors to research and design solutions with new technologies.
- Develop, implement and document the configuration standards policies and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring security of the Storage environment.
- Perform day to day activities for maintenance and upkeep of the various NetApp Storage Systems.
- Respond and plan for service outages.
- Project management for system related projects.
- Research and integrate new technologies into existing data center environments.
- Apply storage related updates, patches, and configuration changes.
- Storage performance tuning and monitoring.
Authority - The Senior System engineer has authority troubleshoot issues in the development, UAT and production environments.
- Execute the responsibilities of the Senior System engineer according to policies, procedures and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities Troubleshoot any reported issues. - Install, support, and configure new NetApp SANs and Disk Shelves.
- Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with attached server and SAN related systems.
- Perform routine audits of Storage systems and software.
- Analyze and architect Storage related solutions as determined by business requirements.
- Perform predictive and proactive maintenance on Storage related systems.
- Perform daily SAN administration activities. Duties include but are not limited to: presentation of LUNs to servers, space allocation, maintaining snapshots, spindle defragmentation, etc…
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organization
- Availability for Evening and Weekend work for system installation/upgrades/maintenance.
- Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes on Storage related systems.
- Storage system performance tuning and monitoring.
- Rotational Weekend 24 hours on call support
Required Experience Skills and Experience Desired - College degree in computer science, information systems, or computer engineering.
- Certifications in Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist and/ or Microsoft Certified Professional Developer desirable.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of Windows Server environment.
- Strong knowledge of backup systems and software.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Must have extensive/expert experience with NetApp SANs in a Production Environment
- Experience with Cisco Fiberchannel switches preferred.
- Expert knowledge of iSCSI and Fiberchannel SANs.
- Strong knowledge of NetApp 6200, 3200, 3100 and 3000 series Stoarge Systems.
- Strong knowledge of NetApp Data ONTAP 8.x OS
- Experience with NetApp Snapshot and SnapMirror features.
- Experience with SnapManager Software.
- Experience with VMWare and/or Citrix in a Production Environment desirable.
- Experience with Active Directory in a Production Environment
- Netapp Certification preferred
- 5+ years of IT experience
- Provide tier 3 level support.
- Provide analysis of issue patterns, and performance reports of Storage Systems.
- Documentation of system processes, designs and configuration, including updating Engineering run book.
- Ensuring compliance of security and production support procedures
