ITNet used to meet at the Yonkers Library. Room was big enough but parking was hard. Most of time we had to park in the parking garage 2-3 blocks away. There is parking near the library (meter) but not enough for our crowd. Just my 2 cents.
Is there a Library in White Plains?

Subject: [WNO] idea for an alternate site to hold meetings
I am a frequent patron of the libraries in the county (the free WiFi is a big plus especially when searching online for opportunities) and I would propose the possibility of holding a WNO meeting at the auditorium in the lower level of the Will Library in Yonkers, NY on Central Avenue.
It appears that it could hold 80 plus people, although space might be limited for networking prior to the event, and afterwards. In addition, another potential setback would be the hours (the building itself closes at 9pm sharp).
But otherwise, it is a possibility to consider; here is the address and phone number info:

Hi!
Most sites vary in charging policy. I checked, for example, at the
Tarrytown library (Warner) which has a room similar in size to the
Croton-Harmon room (but lousy parking). They wanted something like $70
for a three hour reservation (well, it does have a nice view of the
Hudson, the Tarrytown Lighthouse and Tappan Zee Bridge :-)).
Another possible venue type is a church with a large common room and
equally large parking. Anyone a member of such who could pitch an
unemployeds networking group to the clergy there?
Thanks ... Gerard

Re: idea for an alternate site to hold meetings

I took a quick look at the website for the White Plains Library and see
that they do have meeting rooms available. There is plenty of metered
parking in the parking lot below the library and across the street at
the Galleria Mall.
Meeting rooms are available for:
a. Library Programs;
b. Meetings sponsored by City departments, Library-related
organizations, and open public hearings sponsored by elected public
officials;
c. *Rentals* by organizations for civic, cultural, intellectual or
educational purposes. For the purpose of this policy, for-profit
companies do not qualify as organizations.
*Priority in use of meeting rooms is given to Library programs.*
Meetings must be free and open to the public.
Meeting rooms are available from 9:30 a.m. until the Library closes.
There is a fee for overtime use of the Library (see "Meeting Room Charges").
*Rentals may be booked on an occasional basis, no less than one month
and no more than four months in advance. Rooms may not be reserved for
regular meetings, (i.e. weekly, monthly, etc.).*
The charge for the auditorium, which holds up to 125 people is $150 for
up to 4 hours.
The White Plains Library is not an option because 1) they charge a
rental fee; 2) they do not allow reservations for regularly scheduled
meetings; 3) Library programs have priority so there is no guaranty that
the space would be available.

There is, but I don't recall seeing a room in the White Plains Library large enough to hold 80 plus people. There's no freen open parking lot at that site.
The room in the lower level of the Yonkers Library (Will Branch on Central Park Avenue) is the Joan T. Pincus auditorium.

The request should come from one of the organizers since they
will be better informed of the particulars. Mr. Feiner founded a
linkedin group called "Greenburgh Jobs" which offers leads and
encouragement to job seekers. Its very likely he would be
sympathetic to the group's need to find a meeting place. A
contribution of $1.00 to defray the cost of the rental would not
be too much to ask of the attendees.

hi Maureen, i wanted to catch up with you and see how things are going. I have one question. Why do we get some many emails from different people regarding the same subject. I know it's important to let people know about what's going on but i get in my email box about 7 or 8 emails from different people regarding the same subject shouldn't there be one person sending out emails to everyone? it would make more sense to have a central person doing that this way we are not getting the same emails over and over again.
thank you.

Hi!
Most sites vary in charging policy. I checked, for example, at the
Tarrytown library (Warner) which has a room similar in size to the
Croton-Harmon room (but lousy parking). They wanted something like $70 for
a three hour reservation (well, it does have a nice view of the Hudson, the
Tarrytown Lighthouse and Tappan Zee Bridge :-)).
Another possible venue type is a church with a large common room and equally
large parking. Anyone a member of such who could pitch an unemployeds
networking group to the clergy there?
Thanks ... Gerard

Work Local First Fall Schedule
Posted by: "robertjzanfardino" zanfardino4@earthlink.net robertjzanfardino
Wed Aug 19, 2009 8:39 am (PDT)
Folks,
The hot and hazy days of summer are almost behind us and the fall hunt is about to begin. I just wanted to give you a heads up as to what will be going on with the Work Local First Program (WLF) which is part of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce (DCRCOC). As you may know, the chamber has opened its doors and allowed non business members the chance to participant in major chambers events.
On September 16th starting at 10:00 am until 2:30 pm WLF will be sponsoring its first job fair at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel located in the center of Poughkeepsie. Even if you live in the tri-state area you should take advantage of this opportunity. This is a free event to those seeking work and employers who would be interested in setting up booths to talk with perspective candidates. About a week before the event I will send out a tentative list of employers who plan on attending. If you are an employer and would like more information please contact the chamber at 845-471-1700 ext 1006. This is an excellent opportunity to network on a grand scale! Do not forget your business cards and resumes!
The schedule of events also includes: a presentation by Keryl Pesce discussing " Becoming Priceless-The Habit of Successful Thinking", Ellyn Enisman Resume Writing and Carol Heady " Boost Your Job Opportunities: Strategy Matters". Lunch is available for a fee.
If you like you make this a whole day event you are invited to attend a contact breakfast starting at 7:30 at the same location. This will be a formal business affair and the cost for breakfast will be $20.00 for members and $25 for non members. This is a very good opportunity to talk to individuals in a smaller table setting. Please contact the chamber at 845-471-1700 and speak to Darlene Bruno for reservations.
In addition consider joining the WLF program. For a nominal fee you have an opportunity to do what other networking groups cannot provide you ..an opportunity to talk directly with employers in both free and paid events. Feel free to call me or the chamber directly.
On October 14, 2009 the DCRCOC is proud to be hosting the Showcase of Champions Trade Show. This is another event that will provide you with great opportunities to meet with employers from across the region. I will have more information on this event later.

Rob

A quick tutorial on how our Yahoo Group messaging is set up
Posted by: "Maurene Caplan Grey" maurene.grey@grey-consulting.com maurenegrey
Wed Aug 19, 2009 5:52 pm (PDT)
. If you Reply to an email sent to the
Westchester_Networking_ , it is sent to theOrganization@ yahoogroups. com
entire WNO distribution list.
. If you wish to respond only to the sender (e.g., to me), Forward
the message to the individual. You will see the sender's email address in
the TO: line of the email message. (e.g.,
Westchester_Networking_ ; on behalf of; MAURENEOrganization@ yahoogroups. com
CAPLAN GREY [maurene.grey@grey-consulting. ]). In your email client (e.g.,com
Outlook) or on the Yahoo message board itself, you must use Forward, not
Reply.
. Yahoo gives you the option of receiving messages by several means.
o Go to
http://finance.groups.yahoo. com/group/ Westchester_ Networking_ Organization/ .
Under the Yahoo Groups logo (top-left), you will see a line starting with
your Yahoo ID, email address and Edit Membership. Click "Edit Membership."
o Scroll down to "Step 2. Message Delivery," under which you'll see
several options. Click the option that best fits your need (e.g., if you
don't want to receive emails as they are sent, you can choose "Daily
Digest.")
. When you respond to a message, it maintains the Subject line text,
e.g., "idea for an alternate site to hold meetings." Active email threads
look as if the same message is being sent when, in fact, it is a thread that
is being commented on. We've never had an active email thread, so have not
run in this issue.
Specific to the "alternative site" thread.
. The "alternative site" thread was prompted by our need to find
another venue for the WNO meetings. The topic was raised at Monday's WNO
meeting; hence, the messages. As a community, we did ask folk to offer
ideas. (We are "a victim of our own success.")
. Equally important, email inbox overload is quite real.
Unfortunately, Yahoo Groups isn't robust and there is no means to move a
specific thread to another place. (All: If I'm mistaken, please send me an
email using Forward: to the address maurene.grey@grey-consulting. )com
. The committee has gathered the venue suggestions raised over the
last few days and are meeting tomorrow night to discuss them. We'll reach
out to folk who may wish to be further involved in settling the "alternative
venue" issue.
Thanks to everyone for your input and understanding.
