an experienced Sr. Marketing Manager. Position will report to the Director,
Marketing Programs, whose team is responsible for the successful development
and implementation of marketing campaigns and communications through the
firm´s retail distribution channels.

Position will serve as the central point of contact and marketing expertise for
the sales organization including sales management, internal and external
wholesalers and key accounts.

Responsibilities

Identify and develop strategic business plans and effective direct marketing
campaigns to support the firm´s core business objectives, and ensure the
timely delivery of quality marketing materials and sales tools for use with
advisors at partner firms.
Develop and implement targeted, proactive and opportunistic marketing campaigns
to gatekeepers, regional management and other key players at partner firms.
Organize and manage keynote opportunities and presentations at partner firm
meetings.
Maximize marketing opportunities at advisor conferences and due diligence
meetings.
Capitalize on business and market related opportunities to leverage expertise
and investment managers (ex., analyst meetings, roadshow events, conference
calls, investment outlooks).
Manage all aspects of the marketing program from inception to implementation
including business strategy, communications plan, creative brief, production
calendar, budget, content, design, print and delivery, working closely with
Product, Design, Editorial, eSolutions and Compliance teams.
Educate Sales on how to use the various components of each program prior to
launch, and obtain feedback once in use.
Ensure that all marketing materials integrate brand messaging, style guide
requirements and are consistent within each channel and across the firm.
Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years experience in marketing communications within the asset
management industry, preferably in the retail distribution channels -
experience marketing directly to financial advisors is essential.
Strong understanding of the advisory business and the role of an asset
management partner in that business.
Exceptional organizational and marketing program management skills, including
the ability to manage a large number of ongoing initiatives.
Ability to think strategically and develop a business plan.
Ability to comfortably interact with senior sales management professionals.
Proactive problem solver and consensus builder with a demonstrated ability to
work as part of a team.
Solid mutual fund product knowledge required.
Outstanding written and verbal skills.
BA/BS is required; Series 7 preferred.

There was a lot of conversation last week about the 10/18/09 Preoccupations column in the Times on Networking. I was moved to compose a response that the Times felt was worth including in this Sunday's Business section.

Several people have urged me to forward this to the group. I have included both below in case you missed the original article and/or my response.

You know that I think networking is critical, but social media networking will only get you so far.
