Hi All,
First thank you for being a member of this group.
As most of you know, I not only run/moderate this group, but I am
President/Principal of Wright Associates a High Tech Recruiting Firm focused
on the Greater NE Market.
If you have any suggestions to make the group more valuable, please do not
hesitate to email me.
A few random thoughts on a Friday afternoon.
I get numerous emails/calls from people on the market that are asking me how
the market is and how it will be going forward.
My take is as follows:
I am starting to see some improvement in hiring in MA & NY - I believe that
this will continue to pick up gradually as we approach the fall/end of year.
Pent up demand for additional staff is high at a lot of firms and they will
start hiring sooner as opposed to later.
The good news is that MA Unemployment is around 8.6% where nationally it is
approaching 10%.
Most of the roles being turned over to recruiters for assistance are the
most difficult to fill. Firms that are looking are trying to fill most of
their positions direct as they want to save the fee + the economy has put a
tremendous amount of talent on the street that is available.
So, network, network, network, + check the web site of your target companies
frequently.
Positions that are available, require very tight match against key
requirements as firms know that in most cases they can find pretty much what
they are looking for.
If you are going after a role that you feel you are a strong match for, take
the time to tune your resume to emphasize your background and skills as they
directly relate to the key requirements. Write a short, focused, no more
then 1 page cover that explains why you are a strong fit for the role.
In this market you need to separate yourself from the herd.
A Strong, well written resume without typo's/errors that is easy to read as
people typically spend less then a few minutes looking at it.
Not too long ago, a received a 24 page resume?
It is not uncommon for me to receive 6-8 page resumes - this is too long -
depending on experience level somewhere between 2-4 pages is appropriate.
I hope that you are all enjoying the summer and please do not hesitate to
contact me if you have further questions.
Regards,
Gary L. Wright - President/Principal
