I'd to to point out some relatively new functionality which LinkedIn has added. On the page of every 1st level contact you have, is space for you to add notes to yourself about the contact. It's captioned: "Your private information about ____"
This appears on the right-side of a contact's page, far enough down that you may need to scroll slightly to see it. Just add free-form text for info such as: where you met; common interests; last discussion points; future discussion points; who you may have referred etc. It's great because every time you consult this person's profile, your private notes are right there; you don't have to fumble through another address book or offline database.
If you're new to LinkedIn Groups and are looking to better understand the fundamentals, very helpful information is at: http://learn.linkedin.com/groups/ Posted By Don Buehler
