Technology Support Specialist V-479
Job Description: The Technology Support Specialist reports to the College of Education and Human Services' (CEHS) Director of Technology Services. S/he provides technical support to faculty, administrators, and staff by managing the day-to-day technology concerns of the College. Major responsibilities include coordinating desktop support, maintaining the College website, providing academic technology support, training and supervising student workers, tracking inventory, and assisting the Director. This position will also maintain and support the CEHS specialized labs. Major duties and responsibilities include: * Coordinates and provides desktop support to the CEHS user community in conjunction with OIT. * Supervises technical support staff, including part-time and student employees. * Recommends, schedules, and performs repairs and maintenance to ensure desktop integrity. * Ability to build desktop/laptop dual boot images with Ghost and quality control test them. * Configures, troubleshoots, and maintains non-standard software and hardware. * Documents and implements technical procedures. * Prepares informational materials for distribution and publication. * Provides technical support and training for users. * Investigates, evaluates and recommends hardware and software upgrades. * Conducts/validates daily backups for FileMaker Database. * Maintains the College website. * Assists in development and maintenance of the College applications. * Maintains and supports the CEHS specialized labs. * Some knowledge of digital cameras, data projectors, and digitizing equipment. * Procures, maintains, and tracks CEHS technology inventory. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred; professional work experience in an information technology capacity may substitute for bachelor's degree study on a year-by-year basis. Major and/or coursework in computer science, instructional technology, or relevant field required. At least two years of desktop/software support experience in a mixed environment. Experience working with business and multimedia software applications, computer hardware, printers, and other peripherals. Familiarity with servers network operating system software, such as Linux, Unix, Macintosh OS X, and MS Windows. Experience coding, designing, and upgrading webpages; PHP and Java knowledge is a plus. MCSE, MCSA, Apple Certified Support Professional, and/or A+ certification is a plus. Experience working in an educational environment preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
