II.            POSITION SUMMARY
 
Reporting to the Vice President of Infrastructure Operations & Engineering, the Director of Data Center Operations for the NYU Medical Center IT Department (MCIT) is responsible for maintaining NYULMC's data center (DC) and disaster recovery center operations. The Director provides direct supervision for all aspects of operations, maintenance, MCIT personnel and third party vendors to ensure 24 x 7 operations at the data center.  The Director is responsible for maintaining awareness of technologies pertinent to the MCIT goals and objectives and working collaboratively with all constituents from the MCIT community, serves a leadership function for the effective delivery of all systems within the DC.
 
The Director participates on various MCIT operations, standards, and advisory committees, and delivers to the goals set by the senior MCIT leadership to accomplish business goals and objectives.  The Director works with the management team within Information Technology, and within the individual components of the Medical Center, to develop operational processes following utilizing industry best practices (ITIL) to drive best in class operations. The Director has budgetary responsibility, and accountability, for the activities of approximately ten professional IT employees and in support of over 700 servers, core services such as email, file sharing, remote systems access, storage, Citrix, virtualization and networking equipment's.  The Director is also responsible for the technical supervision of the MCIT DC-OPS team and the strategic outsourced service provider to ensure day-to-day service delivery and support based on the SLA.
 
 
Functions for the Director consists of:

Management of ITIL processes: Incident, Change, and Problem management
SLA management as agreed to by NYULMC and the third party vendor
BCP & DR planning and communications
Outage communications and executive level communications related to P1 incidents
Coordination and facilitation of P1 incident "war-rooms"
Reporting of service metrics related to performance for all MCIT areas (Applications and Infrastructure)
Monitoring and Alert notifications via third party is performed as agreed
DC and DR site Asset management
Owner and driver of the CAB (Change review board)
Champion of Service Quality Processes and the ITIL initiatives
Owner of the third party agreement and relationship with DC/DR services provider
 
This position will line manage resources belonging to other functional groups reporting directly to Senior Director of Convergence Technology & Network, Senior Director of Distributed Computing Services, and other areas. The Director will be required to partner with functional peers to ensure effective delivery.
 
 
 
III.           POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
 
1.       Manage a matrixed team made up of direct reports to other functional areas as well as direct reports.
2.       Possess strategic vision and execution capabilities to operationalize best practices utilizing ITIL framework.
3.       Working knowledge of ITIL best practices and processes for operational excellence.
a.       Implementation of ITIL best practices to improve operations
b.      Experience managing data centers and internal operations
c.       Improvement in incident and problem management processes
d.      Reporting of SLA's and metrics
e.      Outage management and leadership through coordination, communication and facilitation
4.       Experience with monitoring technologies and processes.
5.       Data Center management.
a.       Understanding of effective use of DC power consumption with segregation of hot/cold isles and efficient floor planning
b.      Green energy technologies as it pertains to DC's
c.       Effective cable management and ensure maintenance and upkeep of all data closets across NYULMC facilities
6.       BCP & DR Processes
a.       Development of BCP/DR plans
b.      Facilitation of enterprise wide BCP/DR exercise and planning
7.       Financial management responsibilities.
a.       Management of CAP-X, OP-X and 3rd party vendors
b.      Asset management
c.       Execution of cost containment strategy
d.      Vendor management (leveraging vendor resources, relationship building)
e.      Cost reduction strategy experience (Technology, Process, Resources)
8.       Organizational and staff development experience.
9.       Operating in staff augmented support model.
10.   Manage strategic out-source relationships and building in-source delivery/support models.
11.   Excellent follow through skills and detail oriented.
12.   Customer first mind-set and ability to lead an organization to the desired state.
13.   Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
a.       Experience developing and delivering presentations that can be shared with organizational leadership (VPs/CIO)
14.   Performs and directs overall administration of department including budgets and HR
 
 
IV.          SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
·         The applicant must have at least 10 – 15 years experience in the Information Technology field and specifically at minimum 5 years in the data center management discipline.
·         Experience with hands-on implementation of ITIL best practices.
·         The applicant must have excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills.
·         The applicant must have strong facilitation and communications skills both verbal and written.
·         The applicant must be a team player that will help create a positive team environment and has the proven ability to work on a variety of projects.
 
 
V.            EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
B.S. degree in computer science, information services or related field required.

Qualifications
