I. POSITION SUMMARY:
The R&D finance manager is responsible for providing financial support to various R&D functions.
II. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides a broad range of financial support and direction to research and development colleagues throughout the R&D organization.
2. Will be responsible for developing expense budgets, forecasts and conducting variance analysis.
3. Provides timely and accurate management reporting to department heads and Executive Management.
4. Represents finance on cross-functional projects and process improvement initiatives.
5. Will provide analytical support to various R&D functional areas.
6. Will provide financial oversight and administer financial aspects of co-development program activities with external partners and internal development team members.
7. Will provide occasional support and interface with other functions outside of the R&D organization (e.g. Business Development, Corporate Finance and Corporate Accounting).
III. ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Will provide assistance on various process improvement initiatives.
2. Will provide input into system development and enhancement initiatives.
IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: B.S. in Finance or Accounting, M.B.A. strongly preferred.
Experience:
- At least seven years of finance and accounting experience including financial analysis, financial planning and management reporting. Strong knowledge of GAAP, activity based costing and management is essential.
- Minimum of 3 years experience supporting the research and development function within a life sciences organization (i.e. Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Medical devices) organization.
- Must have strong financial systems knowledge including experience participating on implementation teams and hands-on experience with modern ERP systems (preferably SAP-ECC) and financial planning systems (SAP-BW/BI, Hyperion, TM-1 etc.)
- Process mapping and design experience preferred.
- Project accounting, planning, and management experience preferred.

- Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Must be proactive and possess the ability to work independently.
- Flexibility and the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines are essential.
- Exceptional computer skills including all MS office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Familiarity with MS Project and Visio preferred.
- Must be able to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
