VKernel gets $7M in second funding round
By Galen Moore
VKernel Corp. has secured a $7.1 million Series B round of funding from
return investors Polaris Venture Partners and Hummer Winblad Venture
Partners, according to documents filed yesterday with federal regulators.
The Portsmouth, N.H.-based maker of virtualization software brought its
total venture funding to $11.7 million.

Polaris general partner David Barrett and Hummer Winblad managing director
Mitchell Kurtzman will retain their seats on VKernel's board. The company
also added former Onaro CEO Doug McNary as an advisor, bringing its total
number of directors to four.

VKernel executives were traveling and could not immediately be reached
Wednesday morning, but a spokesman issued a statement from founder and CEO
Alex Bakman citing the company's "high-velocity sales and marketing
strategy," and low-cost, simple products.

VKernel makes software designed to enhance virtual server performance, lower
operating costs and simplify management. The company was founded in January
of 2007, and, according to federal regulatory records, raised its first
venture round in September of the same year.

Charles River backs Zendesk's expansion into Boston

Charles River backs Zendesk's expansion into Boston
By Mass High Tech staff
Danish help desk software company Zendesk ApS has taken on an unspecified
amount of Series A funding from Charles River Ventures, to expand operations
and establish a new U.S. headquarters in Boston.

Zendesk, founded in 2007, uses a software as a service delivery platform to
manage a company's help desk system. According to officials, the company's
client roster has just climbed above 1,000 and includes Twitter, MSNBC.com
and Rackspace Cloud.

Officials said that one of the driving reasons for planting a headquarters
in the U.S. is that 70 percent of its customer base is here.

According to the company's blog, Zendesk received $500,000 dollars in seed
funding from angel investors in June of 2008. With this latest funding,
Devdutt Yellurkar of CRV has joined the Zendesk board.

By using Web 2.0 technologies such as Ruby on Rails and tag-based
categorization, Zendesk says it is creating a "help desk 2.0 movement"
intended to make the customer support experience less painful to both
companies and their customers.

Waltham-based Charles River Ventures has been busy on the personnel front in
recent weeks. In April it added Stanford University professor and Google
Inc. engineer Sebastian Thrun as a senior advisor. Just a few weeks prior it
had also named former chairman and CEO of Sonus Networks Inc. Hassan Ahmed
as a senior advisor. Sonus Networks is a former CRV portfolio company.

Founded in 1970, Charles River Ventures has approximately $2.1 billion under
management. Among the companies in its portfolio are Cedar Point
Communications Inc. of New Hampshire and Nantero Inc. of Woburn. CRV has had
its share of successful tech industry exits, including the July 2007 IPO of
Marlborough-based Netezza Corp. (NYSE: NZ) for $108 million, and the
September 2007 sale of Lowell's Acopia Networks Inc. for $210 million.

To all members who post opportunities to the group - Required readin

Posted by: "Gary Wright - Wright Associates" gary_wright@verizon.net   wrightassociates

Wed May 6, 2009 12:54 pm (PDT)

Hi,

As most of you know, this is a moderated group which means that I approve
each member and every message posted.

This activity takes a great deal of time and my life can be made much easier
if everyone who posts job opportunities would read the Group Guidelines that
are sent out when you join and every 2 weeks after that.

I am going to include the current guidelines in this message and would ask
all of you to please read them if you are going to post opportunities.

The biggest issues that I have to sort out all the time are the following:

1) - Job Title and Location at a Minimum are required as part of the Subject
Line

2) - Only Positions that are located in ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI, NY, NJ, & PA
are allowed unless the position pays relocation. If a position is posted
that is located in states other than these, and Relocation is Provided, it
is ok to post - Relocation Provided must also be included in the subject
line.

3) - I allow the posting of contract jobs, but they must follow the
guidelines above.

Thank you for your assistance.

Guidelines Follow:

This group covers what I call the Greater New England Area – States covered
are ME, VT, NH, MA, RI, CT, & the Tri-state area – NY, NJ & PA.

The intent of the group is 2 fold – Ist and foremost I started this group to
help people locate new opportunities and act as a forum for the surrounding
process. This means networking, job leads, job postings, contacts, articles
on anything that may be useful to people in search mode, new company funding
etc.

Secondly, as you know I own my own company and specialize in Recruiting &
Search focused on the High Technology related areas and companies. I also
use this group as an additional means of sourcing candidates for positions
that I am trying to help clients fill. This means that any assignments that
I am working on I post to the group, looking for candidates or referrals
that may be interested in the position.

The group is moderated, meaning nothing gets posted with out me approving
it. This allows me to monitor all postings to make sure they are on topic
and also to eliminate any SPAM. I spend a considerable amount of time
managing this group to try and make it useful to the members.

General Guidelines:

· No Attachments are allowed – Avoids New Virus's sneaking thru

· Stay on Topic – Job & networking related information

· No Politics

· No commercials or SPAM – A short company blip, as part of your
signature is fine.

· No resume posting on the message board. It is ok to post an
elevator speech and that you are looking for an opportunity as long as it
does not exceed a paragraph or so.

· No bashing of members or anything else that does not show respect
to individual members

· Please include a one or two word description at the beginning of
the subject line of your email to identify the type of posting:

Examples:

Information

Article

Introduction

Assistance Needed

Contact Needed

Company Information

New Job

Etc.

I am not going to enforce any kind of rigid rules here as I want members to
be able to post without a great deal of hassle. Use your common sense and it
should be fine.

If you are not sure if something is suitable for posting send it to me for
review at GaryWright@Prodigy.Net

Job Posting Guidelines:

· Please limit postings to no more then 5 per day

· Full Time or Contracting positions in the following states are
allowed:

ME, VT, NH, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, & PA

· Additionally, it is all right to state NE, New England, East
Coast, North East or Any State in your job posting, if it includes the
states above.

· Positions offering Relocation for any state can be posted. Must
indicate in subject line that position offers Relocation.

· The Subject Line of the message must contain at a minimum the
following:

Ø Posting Content – New Job, Reposted Job, Revised Job, Job
Cancellation

Ø Job Title

Ø Job Location – City & State or NE, New England, North East, or Any
State

Ø Relocation if position offers if outside of Greater NE

· If job allows for relocation, state this in the subject line of
message

· Reposts will be limited to once per week

· If you have a need to post several jobs on a given day, I suggest
that you create a summary list with a link to each specific job to the web
site where the job description is located.

I have tried to make these guidelines as simple as possible to follow and I
alone with choose to enforce the rules. I do not want it to be difficult to
post and I would rather have good leads or information posted as opposed to
being the network police.

Lastly, always feel free to give me your comments or suggestions regarding
the group.

Thank you for your membership, as it is appreciated.
