I am working with a client to fill a position they currently have open in NY City, and thought you might know someone who is job hunting, possibly interested and qualified. We'll pay you $1,000 anytime we place your referral.
A summary description follows. The full description is posted on our web site (click on "Current openings" below my signature), and look for Job Ref # 636. Call me or Dan Barber if any questions.
The position is challenging/ stimulating, the pay highly competitive, the benefits package excellent, and the company is very stable - we have been placing with this company for 10 years and can talk in some depth about the management, culture, etc.
Notes / summary - I'm not that technical so offer my apology if some of this doesn't make sense to you
Primary skills required are Java, Web Services/communicat ions protocols (SOAP or REST but SOAP preferred), and C++. Must be strong with all three, but the C++ experience does not have to be as current;
The position works on software that communicates between sub-systems (the client is using a digital end2end application, a workflow that takes content and moves it all around. This systems talks to a SAN and makes calls to it on a system2system level.
This position does not report to IT, it reports to the client's studio and broadcast operations director
Lots of experience writing to system level API's and operating system(s);
Someone who has developed applications (cradle2grave, you support what you develop) which allow different types of hardware devices to incorporate different types of storage solutions;
Media industry background, video streaming or IPTV experience would be ideal OR someone who has worked on HP Openview, for example, extending the features of that or a similar product
Maybe past experience writing automated tools for some sort of video asset management system where you needed to establish communication between different pieces of hardware and software through system level API's - e.g., to find out the device status and/or execute some function(s), like working on some network or operating systems integration management application
Minimum 10 years software development including experience in software development in the video entertainment industry OR systems development for automation or integration of systems
GUI experience (Swing preferred)
Thanks for your time, and certainly any assistance.

A message to all members of ProjectManagers.net
Hi all,
I can tell there is a lot of interest in Twitter, as our Twitter list for
Project Managers <http://www.twitter.com/projectnetwo > quicklyrk/community
became one of the most followed lists on the web.
Just wanted to let you know of a nice update to
ProjectManagers.net<http://www.projectm anagers.net >.
You can now link your Twitter account to your profile on the site. If you
read an article that you like, you can also tweet it out directly from the
site. At the bottom of every post, there is a little blue Twitter link. Just
click that and it will ask you if you want to allow the link.
You can also click "settings" on the right hand column, and then click "my
page." From there, you can update your Twitter account or add accounts
anytime.
Thanks and best regards,
Miles

I have always found a great deal of value in online social networking and in
connecting and sharing through online groups, so to pay it forward and give
back, I wanted to share word of what I am writing about on my business and
technology blog.
Guide to Effective Job Search and Career Development
http://plattperspective.wordpress. com/guide- to-effective- job-search- and-career- development/
I now have posted 36 short single topic essays on various aspects of job
search and career development. These cover standard topics and issues and
also look into new trends and issues like video resumes and best practices
for them. My most recent posting here deals with the difficult issues of job
discrimination and I have several more postings planned to continue this
series. With unemployment still at and above 10% nationally in the US this
is an important area to develop and share best practices in.
Social Networking and Business
http://plattperspective.wordpress. com/social- networking- and-business/
This is very close to what I do professionally as a consultant along with
always looking for new job opportunities myself. I have posted 38 times on
this, presenting a very systematic picture of what good, effective social
networking is and how to create value through it. My most recent posting in
this series is about social networking and fads, and how they form.
I also post on a range of other, related topics and I always respond to
comments that share ideas and that help develop real conversations. How can
I help you with your networking?
