Re: [itroundtable] RE: [CIT_Group] Please Sign the Petition to Continue UnemploymentBenefits Program!

@Natalie Levy: Unemployment benefits are not welfare, it is an insurance program and we have all paid the premiums through payroll deduction. Did you ever read your paystubs? It's usually SUI for State Unemployment Insurance. We do not have a totalitarian regime in this country. We have a democratically elected representative government. It's not working very well at this time because the deregulation of the media has allowed a very conservative, formerly Australian billionaire to buy thousands of newspapers and radio stations and hundreds of TV stations to fill your head with the right wing propaganda that you have just repeated on these lists.

When we cut taxes on the wealthy, they "take profits" and we go into a recession. I've been watching this happen since 1981. Thus, tax breaks for the wealthy do not create jobs. In fact, the opposite is true, if you raise their personal tax rates, they will leave their money invested and grow their businesses.

If you think people who need unemployment benefits (for which they paid premiums) to survive until there are jobs to be had don't really want to work, you are totally ignorant. We all want to work, but until that becomes possible, many people need a little help surviving until that becomes a possibility for them.

To everyone else on these lists, I apologize if you think I got off the topic of of your group, but "America is in hard times, not end times" [--Jon Stewart] and I feel the need to counter ignorance and intolerance with facts, sanity, and civility.
