I. POSITIONSUMMARY
 
The Business-IT Director will be first and foremost accountable for realizing the business
value potential of information technology within their business domain (Mission o1"

2. Managing the relationships between the domain and MCIT
Representing MCIT to domain and the domain to MCIT so as to stimulate,

initial scope and cost estimates); advocating for successful execution of key
business-IT programs within the domain.
 
3. Product Management oversight within their domain
Conceiving domain solutions within the context of the evolving NYULMC
Enterprise Architecture to optimize IT investments and return on assets for
NYULMC; working with MCIT shared IT services organization and abiding by
the MCIT Operating Policies, Procedures, and Process to ensure efficient,
consistent, secure, interoperable and quality delivery of IT-enabled business
solutions.
 
The Business-IT Director will work directly with both the domain and MCIT Leadership
Teams. The position reports directly to the domain leader with a dotted line reporting
relationship to the Chief Information Officer. The Business-IT Director will provide
direct leadership to Business Analysts, Solution Developers and Product Managers. They
will hold Project Managers accountable for producing quality deliverables on-time and
within budget. The Business-IT Director will help Project Managers develop aggressive
project plans, secure needed resources, detect any signs of material variance from those
plans, and resolve issues outside the control of individual projects. This position will also
ensure that the system will meet the business expectations and be well documented and
supported.
 
 
The Business-IT Director is a strategist, business manager, and evangelist for information
technology. As a strategist, the Business-IT Director will help the domain Leadership
Team discover justifying value, for IT initiatives develop strategic timelines, and
determine overall budget and resource requirements. As a business manager, the
Business-IT Director will become familiar with all aspects of system design, enhanced
workflows, testing, training, and implementation. As an evangelist, the Business-IT
Director will promote the strategic value of IT, maintain day-to-day communication with
project teams, and bring transparency to business value as it is measured and realized.
The Business-IT Director will also cultivate vendor relationships pertinent to commercial
software packages for their domain and maintain awareness of latest developments in key
areas of responsibility.
 
II. POSITIONRESPONSIBILITIES
 
Leadership:
An active leader, representing the interests of the business domain to
MCIT and MCIT to the business domain. He or she is responsible for creating
business-IT partnerships that optimize the value of IT for the NYULMC. The
Business-IT Director ensures that business strategy exploits IT potential and that the
MCIT strategy aligns with the domain's business strategy. The ideal candidate has
both prior experience in a health system and experience in information technology
management.
 
 

Creates a culture of innovation through involvement and engagement. 
Clearly communicates business-IT objectives, timelines and resources to managers and operational partners.
Participates in both domain and MCIT staff meetings so as to keep
informed on both business matters of the domain and IT matters of enterprise significance.
Subject to joint performance reviews from both domain and MCIT leadership.
Maintain the IT initiative portfolios for the domain.
Conforming to applicable MCIT common processes and standards.
Accountable for effective and efficient development and execution of
domain business-IT strategy and holds others to the same standard;
recommends coaching or removal of assignments as appropriate.
Provides business-IT support to programs within the domain.
Provides oversight to projects within the domain that are not part of a
major program.
Manages the development of domain-specific products and business
solutions.
Abides within Enterprise Architecture.
Leverage services from MC1T that can be shared across domains (QA,
data center, middleware, help desk, etc.)

A large aspect of this leadership role is communicating and setting
expectations with the domain business leaders and MCIT. The ideal candidate will be
experienced with IT Operating Models, IT governance, and IT Processes.
 

Communicates project and program status to sponsors and stakeholders
including reasons why it's succeeding or failing.

Assists Program sponsors in establishing desired business outcomes and value
justifications

Facilitates collaboration and decision making between sponsors and departments
 
Management:
The Business-IT Director is responsible for providing oversight to all
project managers running projects associated with the Program. This includes:
 

Works closely with the MC1T Leadership Team to ensure customer satisfaction with IT and ensuring that issues are addressed.

Oversight of products and Solutions that are unique to the domain.

II. POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director, MCIT Program Management Office (PMO) will be first and foremost accountable for maximizing the business value realized from NYU Langone Medical Center's (NYULMC) investments in Information Technology (IT). To this end, the position facilitates the process for identifying, prioritizing and selecting 1T investments to support NYULMC strategy. Tile position establishes, implements and controls best practices for IT
project, program and portfolio management across the organization. It provides leadership and supervision to Project and Program Managers responsible for developing and implementing IT initiatives that support the strategic objectives of NYULMC. The position must also ensure effective and productive collaboration, both within the Medical Center IT Organization (MCIT) organization and across the business units (Clinical, Education and
Research Missions, and functional departments, including Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and Legal) and the Enterprise IT Board, as well as external vendors providing IT related services.
 
 
 
III. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the portfolio management process for Enterprise IT Board and mission level steering committees by facilitating the process of identifying, prioritizing, selecting, and approving projects and  investment option. Apprises the Enterprise IT Board of project status, issues and concerns. Maintains the portfolio documentation and minutes of Executive IT Board meetings. Recommends time criteria against which all projects are evaluated, and helps determine ways to link their value to the corporate business strategy. Works with the finance organization to quantify program and project benefits in a way that will enable objective evaluation of projects against company objectives and thereby aid project approval and prioritization decision-making.  Ensures that all required data for making portfolio decisions is complete and  available for decision-making, working with functional Managers, program managers, and project Managers to do so. Collaborates with
enterprise architects to ensure that IT investments and decisions  are consistent with the enterprise architectures. Monitors resource constraints affecting the completion of projects in the portfolio. Analyzes the impact to the existing portfolio when new projects surface, and works  with functional managers, program managers, and project managers to identify alternative strategies (resources, project sequencing, etc.) for accomplishing desired  projects. Makes portfolio information visible to executive management, directors, and other key personnel. Works with program and project managers to translate portfolio decisions to  appropriate plans for and execution of the projects.
 
Provides leadership, supervision and guidance to the members of the PMO  organization, including PMO analysts and technical specialists.
Shapes the strategy for the services and tools offered by the PMO to MCIT and to the institution more broadly.
Ensures the effective provisioning of the PMO tools and services and the consistent achievement of agreed service levels and enterprise architectures. Fosters consistent  leading practice approaches to project, program and portfolio management across the  institution.
Establishes structures, policies, and practices that facilitate collaboration within MCIT and across NYULMC.

Participates in MCIT strategic and budgetary planning processes; prepares and  administers work unit operating budget.

Designs and implements corporate accountability models to ensure value realization from IT-enabled initiatives and optimal utilization of IT resources.

Develops and promotes effective governance processes and structures for making  quality IT decisions that are accepted and monitored for compliance.
