Focus Group - Liberty Science Center

Posted by: "Janice Erzmoniet" jerzmone@msn.com   jerzmoneit@ymail.com

Tue Nov 17, 2009 4:16 pm (PST)

The Liberty Science Center is participating in a grant which requires that we conduct some focus groups. In the last few years we have already seen the effects of the environmental changes on people's daily lives both in terms of weather related events and in fulfilling our energy needs. The effects of many other changes, like climate changes, are largely unknown and uncertain, but are being researched now by scientists around the world.

Liberty Science Center has joined other museums and science centers in this research program. The purpose of this research is to better understand how people feel about the possible impact of climate change, how individuals and communities can respond to it and what role museums and science centers should have in future efforts.

As part of this research, we will conduct focus groups with parents who have children between 5 and 17 years of age. Each session will last two hours and will be held at Liberty Science Center. Either a "mom" or "dad" can participate. We know your time is valuable, so those who participate will receive either $50 cash or 4 exhibition tickets or $75 cash.

The information from these groups will be used for research purposes only, and your contributions to the discussions will be combined with those of other participants.

This is the schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 21 and Sun, Nov.22
3 groups each day with 10 people in each; lasts 2 hours
Times are 10-12, 12:30 – 2:30, 3-5 both days

Also Monday, Nov. 23 6-8 PM

We are looking for people to come to one of these groups, They must be:
· A parent with children 5-17,dad or mom
· who has either been to LSC and is not a member,
· or someone who has never been here but is interested in science and not adverse to coming here,
· Is not be related to me, or a really close friend (no kidding about this)
· Neither they or anyone in their family have worked or volunteered here or at another museum.
· If they are coming here with their kids they must also come with another adult who can take the kids around while the parent is in the focus group.

They will be paid either:
$50 + exhibition tickets for 4 people OR $75 - money will be cash
And they will be given refreshments

If you meet these requirements and would like to come, please email me at jerzmoneit@lsc.org with your name, telephone number and email address and you will be contacted to schedule you into one of the groups. It is a good opportunity to make some money for the holidays by just sitting around and answering some questions. No preparation is needed.

This is the schedule:

Saturday, Nov. 21 and Sun, Nov.22
3 groups each day with 10 people in each; lasts 2 hours
Times are 10-12, 12:30 – 2:30, 3-5 both days
Also Monday, Nov. 23 6-8 PM
