Info: 40% of employers plan to re-hire laid off employees
Posted by: "Ron Katz" ronhrkatz@yahoo.com ronhrkatz
Tue Nov 17, 2009 1:39 pm (PST)
Don't overlook your former employer when searching. A survey(link below) shows that 40% of employers plan to re-hire laid off employees who were not separated for performance based reasons. Almost 50% in financial services. Sure it hurt to be let go and you were pissed off. "I'll show them!" you thought. Now you feel like you're going back with your tail between your legs. Go back with your head held high. THEY wanted YOU back.
Only the best,
Ron

_____________________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _
Please find the attached invitation for our quarterly "Executive
Networking Breakfast" held at the Greenwich Hyatt at 1800 East Putnam
Ave, Old Greenwich, CT 06870 on Tuesday, December 8^th from
8:00AM-11:30AM.
This is the 28th event we have facilitated since 2002. Our previous
events were received with tremendous openness and success; we have had
over 1450 senior level executives attend from diverse backgrounds such
as finance, accounting, human resources, marketing, technology, law,
publishing, engineering, and research. We also have seen tremendous
support from local area networking groups such a New Canaan CaTS,
Westport Trinity, Darien Professionals, Execunet, FENG, MENG, TENG,
local search agencies, as well as other local executive networking forums.
At our 3 events so far in 2009, we have had cumulatively over 200
attendees as well as 50+ people on our waiting list (for the May
program, we made an exception to double the program size due to abnormal
demand). Our normal program is limited to 50 participants per event.
Since 2007, we reached our limit of 50 participants per event 2 weeks
prior to the event. Therefore, please respond immediately if you are
interested. (As of Monday November 16^th , we already have 40 RSVPs.
We may increase our event capacity to 100 if need be).
Normally, we hire a "career coach" to encourage and motivate
participants. For this program, however, we have decided to try some
different presenters. First, we have hired reverse recruiter Debra
Feldman to discuss ways of sourcing job openings. Second, we have hired
sales coach Kevin Jackson to discuss ways of "closing the deal" (getting
an offer). These are two areas that previous participants expressed
interest in. To top things off, Matt Bud of the FENG will be providing
his observation and commentary of the current job market.
Debra Feldman (www.JobWhiz.com <http://www.JobWhiz. com > ) was profiled
in /Forbes /as part sleuth, part networker and noted for her original
and unique career matchmaking. An executive talent agent and job search
expert, Debra personally arranges direct introductions, bypassing
corporate gatekeepers and automated screening systems, to network
purposefullyTM with hiring managers, not HR, to connect clients with the
appropriate decision makers. This provides new opportunities in the
hidden job market to unearth new positions before they are officially
advertised.
Kevin D. Jackson (www.actioncoachnow.net
<http://www.actioncoachnow.net >) is a certified Executive Sales Coach
and entrepreneur in Fairfield County. Most job seekers will agree that
the purpose of the resume is to land an interview. Well, what happens
once you officially enter the hiring process? How do you close the
"deal" and convert a job interview to a job offer? Kevin Jackson
coaches transitioning professionals to apply an equation "(Vision x
Dissatisfaction) + First Steps > Resistance" to increase conversion
rate. Remember that it is not "the questions that /you are asked/" but
rather "the questions that /you ask/" that sets the conditions for a
successful hiring process.
Matt Bud has been a Managing Partner of The Financial Executives
Consulting Group (www.TheFECG.com <http://www.TheFECG. com >) since its
founding in 1999. The FECG places senior financial executives in
interim and permanent assignments as Chief Financial Officers,
Controllers and Treasurers. Matt is also Chairman of The Financial
Executives Networking Group (www.TheFENG.org <http://www.TheFENG. org >),
an international organization of senior financial executives that he has
grown from only 60 members in 1996 to over 35,000 today. The FENG
provides senior level financial executives with a forum to share job
opportunities and experiences. Featured in an article in The Wall
Street Journal in 2003, and earlier this year in a segment on CBS
Evening News with Katie Couric, The FENG is a nationally recognized
organization for senior financial professionals. It is also the largest
organization of its type in the United States. Membership is currently
growing at an annual rate of 15%.
It has been researched and documented that greater than 80% of
senior-level job opportunities are discovered via networking. Our goal
is to create a fun and informative environment to facilitate such
networking and executive learning. Part of the session will be "speed
networking," where participants will meet individuals like themselves to
uncover potential ideas and opportunities.
Please RSVP to Chris Phillips by calling (203) 861-5976 or emailing
christopher_phillips@ <mailto:christopher_ml.com phillips@ > withml.com
your name, phone number, address, and a copy of your resume. Your
resume is requested so we can ensure qualification. We welcome you to
this free event and look forward to meeting you.

Interop - follow up to last night's WNO meeting
Posted by: "novellch@verizon.net" novellch@verizon.net novellch@verizon.net
Tue Nov 17, 2009 3:24 pm (PST)
Hi Everyone,
If you go to the Interop site you will see admission just to the
Exhibition costs $100 per day but I was able to register today for free using a code provided by an organization I belong to. In registering, I was provided with another code that I can extend to any of you who would like to go. If you are interested, email me back and I will send it to you.
As far my efforts to put together some carpooling for this event, the number of people I was able to gather on the quick last night has not been high enough to conquer the dual challenges of geography and choice of day, so the only thing I can offer is to say I will be driving into the city in the am on Thursday if anyone along the Taconic/Sprain
wants to go. However, I am attending another event Thursday evening so I will be staying down there til about 8:45pm. If you can stay down there til then, fine, otherwise you may need to take the train back.
So, let me know!
Chris Novell
P.S. It was actually fun to get to talk to so many of you last night with this little project and I look forward to having longer conversations with you!
